![]() Author has written 2 stories for X-Men: Evolution, and Lord of the Rings. So it's taken me forever to fill one of these out because I hate writing about myself, but here goes. I love to write, but I'm slow; I'm a perfectionist. My X-men Evolution fic has been in the process of being written for the last twelve years and now that it is finally being posted, I want to rip it down and start all over. I am just never satisfied. The topics I like to write about vary, but are usually at least a little on the dark side. It's not that I am a dark soul myself, it's just that I've never been a fan of sweeping the unpleasant things in life under the rug. That is the kind of home I grew up in and it left me the kind of person who enjoys digging up life's harsh realities and shoving them right in your face, exposing them for all to see. This is one of my main purposes for writing in general. My fanfictions though, are really just for me. Sure I post them to get feedback, to get my writing out there, but mostly they are for my own self-expression and practice. One day I will put my own original work out there but for now, I'm just having fun learning and growing on fanfiction. That being said, constructive criticism is a necessary part of growth so anything you might read of mine, please offer some of your observations. I'm especially interested in the reader's experience as they read; what they are feeling, what they think will happen vs. what does, what they think I might be alluding to, etc. As the author, I already know what is going to happen, what my characters are thinking, and where they come from, so it is very frustrating trying to see the story through the eyes of the reader. All right, now that that's all out of the way, here are my current works and what is going on with them: Burn It Down- Two, maybe three chapters left and I am stuck. First, I want to rewrite the first couple of chapters at least. Second, I feel I've emphasized a romance between Lance and the main character, but now that we are nearing the end I realize that I really don't want to mess with the romance. It's certainly not the point of the story. Another issue is I've moved the plot along too fast. It was never supposed to be a long story and in my mind the chapters are sort of like episodes of the show. The plot in the show moves fast as well, but I find myself at a climax lacking the necessary plot devices to get me there and it's left me frustrated. I know what I need to do, I just haven't been able to motivate myself to do it. The Truth About Love- This is a silly little, five chapter story I wrote years ago in the course of the night to make a friend laugh. I decided one night to spruce it up and post it, but back then I was more into OC's because they are often easier than trying to capture an existing character. Now I have to go through and make the changes to Eowyn, but what with school and everything, I haven't been too motivated to do so. It's more of a problem with the previously mentioned story really. When I have a problem posting in one area, it leaves me too frustrated to deal with other areas. I am currently working on a Fable III story and a Harry Potter fic. The Fable III seems to be taking most of my time and looks to be my best story yet. What can I say? I am a slave to the muses. I can only go where they inspire me. If you have any thoughts, questions, or advice for me, please send me a PM. Also, I am interested in finding a nice little writer's circle like I once had in grade school where we would swap our stories and edit for each other as well as share our thoughts and feelings on the stories and characters. If anyone is interested in such a thing please let me know. |
