Hi, I'm Mercenary Birch.

I'm particularly interested in the historical practice of hiring mercenary soldiers, as these fighters of fortune have undoubtedly shaped the histories of many nations on the European Continent. Particularly, the medieval mercenaries of Italy and Spain come to mind, as well as in more recent times, the Rhodesian and South African mercenaries who have fought in Africa.

Today, although many freelance professional mercenaries continue to work as unorthodox combatants in third world countries, most mercenaries can be found in the service of private security companies, some of which were founded as mercenary groups and to this day raise controversies over some of the activity they are contracted to do, which amounts to 'mercenary work'.

Most of my writings will portray fictional mercenaries in action, either from established works of fiction, or drawing inspiration from established works of fiction.
