Author has written 1 story for Lord of the Rings. I'm a native of the San Francisco Bay Area - Silicon Valley, specifically. If you're familiar with the region, you might have already surmised that I'm an unemployed software engineer (a rather common species locally); otherwise, I certainly wouldn't have time to write for pleasure. Slave labor is dreadfully time-consuming.So far, I've only written dull technical notes and even duller memos, all of which purport to be nonfiction. It's an occupational hazard. If we technical folks happen to write anything that is interesting or lively (besides software, of course, which is always fascinating!), our managers reprimand us for not meeting our boredom metrics. With the advent of unemployment, I have now added endless drafts of (even more dull) resumes and cover letters to my list of written works. However, it does afford me the opportunity to dabble a bit in fiction. I find that being an aspiring LOTR fan-fiction author isn't glamorous, either, though some might believe so. It's actually quite annoying to keep my Muse happily supplied with wine (which I personally never imbibe), especially since Dorwinion red is becoming increasingly scarce for either purchase or pilferage. But, on the other hand, he rewards me generously when I caress his pointy ears. I guess I'll keep him for now. Maybe someday he'll even earn his keep by whispering another story idea into my ear ... an author can't live on blush-inducing sweet nothings alone ... far too fattening. I write fiction for adults. Not that my writing contains offensive language or explicit violence or sexuality (yet, though some future stories may), but because I choose not to compromise its quality. The vocabulary, situations, and concepts are best understood (and, dare I hope, appreciated?) by more mature readers. Regretfully, I would never dare to claim that I have the talent to write stories appropriate for young people. The careful reader will notice that, in the prior paragraph, I also did not claim any talent to write for adults, either. I hope to overcome that someday. However, in my opinion, adults are a tad bit more forgiving than children. At least, most have somewhat longer attention spans and a higher tolerance for characters that lack toy promotions or fast-food tie-ins. On a serious note (for a change), if you read my story, I thank you. If you read it and then send me feedback, I thank you doubly. Enjoy! |
