![]() Author has written 2 stories for Wizard of Oz, and Disney. There are some things you should know about me: I'm Jen, I'm a college student who refuses to grow up (and by that I mean I still love cartoons and living in a fantasy land). I am NUTS about anything Disney (with the exception of its TV channel), Broadway and cartoons. Apart from trying to get past these blasted guidelines so I can finally post some stories on here, I spend time drawing (I hope to work for Disney Animation or Pixar), making videos and putting them on YouTube or just watching movies. Overall, I spend too much time on the computer!
Just about every animated Disney movie (particularly Beauty and the Beast), almost anything Tim Burton (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas), Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Coraline, Life is Beautiful, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Dark Knight Rises (yes, I liked it more than Dark Knight, sue me, but come on. Bane, man. BANE.) and WAY too many more to name. In fact don't even ask me this anymore because I will either ramble on and bore you or forget to name a whole bunch or both. xD For the record though, Twilight or anything related to it is not on there. If you are a fan, good for you, but I'm not, and we're both better off just not talking about it. I'm not a troll, and you wouldn't be either if you're reading this, so let's end it here.
Shrek the Musical (saw it THREE times with the AMAZING Original Broadway Cast!!) Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, Spamalot, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, Wicked, and once again, WAY too many more to name.
Erik, The Phantom of the Opera - Which one, you may ask? ANY of them (except Gerard Butler and that one with all the rats, eww). Each Phantom brings something different and unexpected to their performance, staying true to the character in their own way while making their individual mark. My two favorites would have to be Michael Crawford in the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical and Lon Chaney in the iconic silent film. What can I say about them that everyone else hasn't already said. Both dared to push the limits of their acting abilities and do God-knows-what to their faces to turn out unforgettable performances. They both bring depth, emotion and sympathy to this tragic character. You fear Erik for what he has done and what he will do, but you feel pity for him also. Michael was the first I was ever introduced to, and his hypnotic voice, sensual moves and passion always keeps me coming back. Everytime I listen to the finale of both acts, he makes me want throw my arms around him and cry with him (and hunt down Christine for hurting him so much, evil fangirl that I am). His Erik I am in love with the most, disfigurement in his face and soul, or not. Belle, Beauty and the Beast - One for the first Disney princesses I ever saw and the one I always felt closest to. Love of reading, feels uncomfortable in a small town where no one shares your ideals and likes, dreams of adventure and a caring heart, what's not to love? She's also one of the more realistic ones, as she yearns for more than a handsome prince and doesn't just want to settle down with the first guy who calls her pretty. In fact we both hate how people focus solely on looks and not who a person really is. We're not afraid to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in, even if some think otherwise. (Stockholm syndrome? I don't think so!) People look down upon Disney princesses for just being pretty and giving girls wrong messages, but Belle is the antithesis of that, and one character that could prove to be a good role model for anyone. It's always been my dream to be her, whether in the musical or in the parks. Who knows, maybe someday it could happen... Bane, The Dark Knight Rises - Get out your grappling guns and Batpod cannons everybody: The Dark Knight Rises is my favorite out of the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Was it flawed? Yes, but I enjoyed the ride fully and still do because the good stuff is done perfectly. One of those perfect things is the re-imagining of Bane. I wasn't too much of a Batman fan before seeing the Nolan films, but after meeting my boyfriend (who helped me openly embrace my inner nerd), I was introduced to to the world of Batman and all the glorious villains it held. When I first read up on who Bane was, I was like "Really? Batman's scared of a Mexican wrestler on steroids? Breaking his back validates that, but come on." And then the movie came out, and Tom Hardy just blew me away. He made a character who I deemed laughable and unrealistic before absolutely TERRIFYING (the whole theater was in complete shock seeing the famous spine-snap happen right before us) and yet surprisingly human at times (that single tear always gets me). Like Erik, he dons a mask (albeit for different reasons), has a tragic backstory and disfigurement and gives it up everything for the woman he cares about (Yes, Bane x Talia shipper on deck, though I can understand their relationship being a platonic one as well, and I ship Bane x OC if it isn't an overtly Mary-Sue insert). And his voice, *sigh*... am I the only one that not only understands it but adores it? Deadly in both physical and mental prowess, but not completely without a soul, Bane is one villain that is hard to top. Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy, My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic - I never thought I could be a brony (or pegasister, if you prefer), but after giving the show a chance I can't recommend it enough. The characters are diverse and memorable, the plots fun and enjoyable, and the humor on par with some of the cartoons I grew up with. If I had to narrow my favorites down to two characters, that would be Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy. Like Belle, Twilight is devoted to her books, but it isn't until disaster calls that she realizes how important having friends is to help you through. She's the one I identify with most, especially when there's a lot of expectation to have her succeed (seriously, watch "Lesson Zero" and you'll see what the last two years of my college career was like). Fluttershy I can relate to a lot though; in school I was often very shy and had few friends, not to mention I was bullied a lot and am pretty sensitive and quiet. Like her I really open up when I'm with my friends and can enjoy the simple things in life, but I love the time we see her actually get mad and fight back. It's that rare time when you're laughing hilariously and yet cheering at the same time. And she is absolutely adorable no matter what she does. 'Nuff said. Tiger, An American Tail - Surprised that I mention a somewhat obscure character? Something about Dom deLuise's voice always makes me smile, especially when it comes from a big fluffy cat. I'd love to come to him when I've had a big day and hug him nonstop. He's funny, super-sweet and loyal to the end. Watch the scenes with him in the first American Tail again; pretending to be something he's not so he can have "friends", letting the facade crumble away when he does find someone who likes him for who he is and telling the other guys to shove it? That's my four years of high school in a nutshell. "A Duo" is one of my favorite songs ever (never fails to make me smile) and every scene with him in Fievel Goes West cracks me up. I feel like there's a lot of potential to explore his character (he's the only vegetarian cat in New York and somehow has 3 fathers!) but there's so very few fics about him or featuring him out there. Guess I'll have to write a few of my own!
"Those who dance are thought mad by those who do not hear the music"- Anonymous "Imagination is more important than knowledge." - Albert Einstein "I'm in a glass cage of emotion!!" - Ron Burgundy, Anchorman "You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling." - Eames, Inception "You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then it was blinding." - Bane, The Dark Knight Rises "I just don't know what went wrong." - Derpy Hooves, My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic "Don't you get it?! You see the hat?! I am Mrs. Nesbit!! Hahahahaha!!" - Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story "We're a duo, a duo, a pair of lonely ones who were meant to be a two-oh!" - Tiger, An American Tail |
