Marco had made a mistake, and now he was paying for it. Locked up in Impel Down, he doesn't expect to see the light of day unless it is at his execution. In level six, he meets two unlikely marines, Rear Admirals, who forces him to re-evaluate his view of some marines. Marco cannot comprehend why Ace and Sabo could be marines. Why join them, work for them, if they hate it so much?

The path towards the sun, towards freedom, is not an easy path. Ace, Sabo and Luffy, three brothers with dreams of seeking such freedom, know this better than anyone. Five years on, and it almost seems hopeless. But perhaps a few helping hands, and an old pirate's offer, can give them everything the world had tried so hard to take away. In which Ace was captured by the marines soon after Sabo was presumed killed, and things go downhill from there.

Things are going normally for the Whitebeard crew. Well normally enough. That is until one of their fishing nets traps a baby mermaid who is desperate to get back to his brothers. Now on top of everything Marco has to deal with not only caring for the injured mermaid but finding out what three merkids were doing all alone in the middle of the ocean. Mermaid ASL meet the WB's.

There was a man perhaps no more than twenty feet from him, half hidden behind the front counter. Sabo didn't know how he had missed him, so distracted by the plants themselves that he must have merely skimmed over him, drawn to other things. Now, however, with his full attention riveted on the man, it seemed foolish. He was easily the most stunning thing here.

Sabo, for whatever reason, didn't want to touch him. Which was fine. He wasn't bothered by that. He wasn't. It was just… a little confusing, that's all.

Now, in the silence of his room, his prison, Sabo ached for the noise. He ached for Luffy's whining protests when he realized it was bedtime and not second dinnertime. Ace's teasing, or the way Ace would loudly protest compliments and affection like it fooled anyone into believing he didn't like hearing it.
