Hello everyone.

My name is Alexander and I'm fanfic-reader and writer from Denmark.
I am 21 years old and use a lot of my spare time reading the fics some of the wonderful people on fanfiction.net come up with and share with us all.

My favourite sections are, in the following order:

1. Naruto
2. Harry Potter
3. Fairy Tail
4. One Piece

Now the reason Naruto is above Harry Potter is not only because it is such a great world, but because it has so much more for the fanfic authors to work with. Far too often the Harry Potter stories are written with some notion that the only way of really making a great Harry Potter fic is by having him become a Lord or an heir or some similar silly notion. That is where Anime series help fanfic authors so much more. They have more to give because there are more wrongs to work with. Or is there? Well, I can't help but think people are just too afraid of trying out their own independent ideas. But big words coming from a guy who deleted everything he himself worked on, huh.

Top tropes I hate the most by universe

General

1. There has to be something to force people together for a relationship to start.
   Seriously, stop with the soul-bonds, arranged marriage or all that crap. If you want to write a romance novel then learn how a relationship works instead of just forcing two people together.
2. Godlike!
   Really? Need I say more. Though sometimes they can be quite funny.
3. Harem
   I have this theory that it's popular because of the male fantasy of having any girl he wants, but also mostly used because the author is attached to the characters and want to give them the best there is, which just so happens to be the main character.
4. Bashing
   Just stop it. If you don't like a character that's fine, just leave it alone. Bashing is mainly for people with pent up frustrations and not much else.
5. Time-travel but afraid to change the timeline, or it doesn't really change.
   Now you're basically repeating canon with a few events here and there you had a idea to change. Go wild, IT IS YOUR STORY NOW. For goodness sake, will you please just get yourself together and make the story YOUR story?
   The worst part is when they stop taking changes into regards and carry on with canon.
6. Making a known character an OC.
   Now I can't say I've read any of them, but just considering what I read in the description I have to bang my head against the wall at the mention of Veela Draco Malfoy who loves the Muggleborn and act every bit the prince charming little girl fantasise about. That's not Draco Malfoy, that's you character. Give him another name and just mention Draco once or twice in your story as another student.
7. M-preg
   Wait, what? No. I've never read a story where this is mentioned in the summary, and I don't think I ever will. Now I have nothing against homosexuals, though I don't read slash, but there's just something disturbing about the whole concept of M-preg. Why not accept that the human race has 2 genders, and what they can do is pretty much set in stone. If they really want a baby then adopt one or any of the other alternatives.

Harry Potter

1. Soul-bonds.
   See General
2. Harry is in reality godlike but Dumbledore placed a shitton of blocks on him.
   No! If you want an awesome character make him work for it!
3. Heir to the ancient house of Merlin or the founders or... God
   Build your character, let him evolve with the challenges instead of just handing him the reins of nigh infinite power.
4. Weasley!Bashing
   These are some of the best people of the series, and the best surviving family! Molly is so full of love that she is able to give it to a little boy she hardly knows. That's because she's a kind woman! Damnit people! No more needs to be said I hope. I seriously think this is just a way to have Harry befriend someone else, because they apparently have to evil in order for Harry not to be with them.
5. Good guy Severus Snape
   I hate that character and I wish he burns in the fires of hell. Him having loved Lily doesn't change the fact that he is pretty much an asshole throughout his life and the series, both directly and implicated.
   That he fights the good fight doesn't change the fact that he targets small children and entertain the notion of the death eater ideology. He supports the belief in the school, but he fights against them. Maybe it is just because he couldn't bare to lose what he thought of as his.
6. Wrong BWL and suddenly Lily and James become the world's worst parents.
   Why would that make sense? We see no hint of it being so at any point but the amount of stories where this is the case is staggering! I even saw one that said that because Harry was thought not to be BWL they had the Dursley's take care of him while they kept their own son. Oh come on, really? If you wan't to write a story like that then at least give us a reason why this is the case. I've read some where Harry goes to an alternate universe and they act differently because Harry had died or something else, but it should make sense why they change personality.
7. Goblins are your best friend if you remember their names.
   'nuff said.

Naruto

1. Naruto is okay with everything that has happened to him
   Even if it is physical beatings etc. I would kind of imagine he would resent the villagers. In canon we have them be mean, but if you increase the problem you also increase the hurt and would probably decrease Naruto's willingness to forgive.
2. Kushina being alive but hating Naruto because of the nine-tails.
   She was the previous jinchuriki for crying out loud. It really doesn't make sense.

Don't hand your character power and whatever they need on a silver platter, have them work for it. A reward is all the more sweeter when you've worked for it.

In my opinion the most common mistake of fanfics is that authors forget they are dealing with a story of their own, and we as readers shouldn't judge them in conjunction with someone else's work. It pretty much becomes your character the moment you begin making changes to it, and so you have the responsibility as a write to give the reader a good reason why your character would act like he does and have what he does. You must ensure that the character doesn't just become a shell for you to advance a plot you thought of.
