![]() Author has written 42 stories for Lord of the Rings, and Marvel. Chuckling and updating this profile because..times passes and I am no longer 48 :) I am still a scientist, wife, mother..not necessarily in that order and my dear husband and one teenage son are still putting up with my little hobby. I first read LOTR at 13 and promptly lost my heart to a certain Ranger..dove into JRR's legendarium and embarked on a lifelong love of fantasy. Along the way I discovered Anne McCaffrey's works (the Dragonriders of Pern, Talents), Darkover, Guy Gavriel Kay and Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint. I began writing a few years ago and am amazed at the community to be found here and in wider fandom. Come find me at tumblr-- @sian22redux --where I am currently having fun with all things Tolkien and Marvel. I write mostly Third and Fourth Age Men in Tolkien's world, a little Pride, and a little MCU. The latter is mostly at AO3. I love Teitho's monthly Tolkien challenges as a way to get writing ideas going. Please check their website out.. it is full of great writing and original ideas. I have joined Lasgalendil in her vow that if she reads a story she reviews it. If I take the time to read your story I will take (the shorter) time to review it. I promise. :) Resources: As a reader suggested I might be reported and have my stories removed for posting story related lists I have deleted the recent Timeline and Dramatis Personae and posted them at AO3, which is more open to various types of fanworks. You can find them by clicking on the links above. Story status and news: The Bride Price sequel: "It's always best if a stallion clearly marks his territory" It turns out Eomer, King of Rohan is not the only one with his eye on Princess Lothiriel of Dol Amroth as a prospective bride. Dol Amroth may not have an ancient tradition for setting a Bride's Price but it does have a test any would be suitor must pass.. Can Eomer overcome the odds and win? Can Amrothos and Erchirion really stop him from proposing? Getting closer. Yay the muse is behaving Set Fire to the Stars: The story of how Theomund, Prince of Ithilien and Thalon of Rivendell met and fell in love. Chapter 4 posting.. Finish coming soon Coming soon: Flame in the West: Third Age AU. Boromir of Gondor leads an attack on a renegade state but finds all is not as it seems. Can he save his country before it is destroyed from within? Will Eowyn, Queen of Rohan, help her bitter enemy? And how can she resist the one man she must not have? With the Shadow rising love and loyalty are tested. The sons of the Steward must decide: with whom will they break faith? None of this would get done without the help of my fabulous colleagues--Annafan, Wheelrider, Thanwen and Eschiziola. And the encouragement and good company of the ladies of the Garden of Ithilien. Favourite fics... I have many favourites in my list but absolutely please do check out Annafan's and Thanwen's takes on Eowyn and Faramir..they are simply wonderful..very different approaches to an iconic pairing. For pure liquidly lovely prose see Wheelrider's, Nesta's, and Nrink Nrink's work and for another, alternative but equally compelling, version of Faramir check out Eora's fics. For elves, in which I am not so deeply versed, I highly recommend Nyx's gorgeous prose. She is a poet and it comes out in every line. Also please dive right in to Wynja's wonderful 'Where it doesn't show'...yes it is a commitment at 400 chapters but they are short chapters and it is so so worth it. #NestorilandThranduilforever: Thank you Wynja...thank you!!!! Geology and Middle-Earth (how could I resist?) In RL I work as a research scientist in geology studying the evolution of the Canadian Arctic. For anyone wondering about the geology of Middle-Earth: there are many good sites out there but Sarjeant's is the classic... thoughtful, original and accessible for the layperson. Please, please do not refer to Orodruin as a stratovolcano or like Mt St Helens etc. It makes geologists cringe. It is a hotspot-related volcano...what Yellowstone would have looked like before it collapsed, despite that Tolkien drew it like Etna. Sarjent's point about all the hotspot volcanoes in ME being linked to evil-doing will form the basis for my talk at the Tolkien in Vermont meeting next year. For more on the uses of hotspot volcanoes for evil-doing (this time on Earth) see Erik Klemetti's great blogpost: And finally the working version of the link in Annafan's great GDIME story...what really should have happened when Gollum fell in the circulating lava lake.. |
