![]() Author has written 5 stories for Harry Potter. Who am I? Dream Janus Am I male or female?: Male - Gay and proud of it What is my age?: Old enough for everything to be legal and young enough it is still fun I have been reading Harry Potter fan fiction for several years. I have wrote several other stories over the last four years, but this is my first fan fiction. Yes, I am the writer of Kendra, Gaioterra and The Breed. I am presently updating them. What pairings do I like?: Harry/Ginny; Harry/Hermione; Harry/OFC; Harry/Charlie, Bill or one or both of the Twins; Harry/Draco (IF it is well written and not fluffy); Harry/Snape (IF it is well written and not fluffy); Harry/OMC What pairings don't I like?: Harry/Tom Riddle (Voldemort); Harry/Any Deatheater What do I hate the most about Fan Fiction?: Incomplete, abandoned or orphaned stories, especially when they end just as it is getting good, like a battle or cliff hanger. I also cannot stand stories that have Authors Notes that are as long or longer than the Chapter or answer reviews in the note. What I hate is when you point out an inconsistency in a story and the "author" uses "It is fan fiction" as an excuse. What makes fiction enjoyable is that it uses things based in reality to make it scarier (horror) based on scientific possibilities (Sci-Fi) or more believable because something about the story has a human element/emotion (Fantasy). While it may be fan fiction, you should use the fiction that you are a fan of as basis, maybe change a few facts, but overall keep it near to canon. If not you are just writing your own fiction and stealing the name and general appearance of the real stories characters. What I have recently began hating about some Fan Fiction Stories: Most in stories that are cross-overs with Percy Jackson or others in which there are god and/or goddesses. Basic genetics still applies in these stories, or it should. There are basically three types of stories being done. There is no such thing as getting a 1/3 of a parent's genetics. 1) Your parents could not have a baby so they prayed to the old gods. One or Two answered and Harry basically has 3-4 parents...Ok, being that it was done in another actual book I can see it, FYI it was done in the bible. That made one of the 3 parents, a step-parent, not a genetic donor. 2) One of your parents was a god in human form...This one makes sense in that was what happened in Percy Jackson. They actually follow genetics there. a) Both parents were gods in human form, but you are only a demi-god. Huh, how is that possible? In science class you learn that you get half your DNA from each parent. So 1/2 god DNA, plus 1/2 god DNA does not make you a 1/2 god, it makes you a whole god...Genetics and math can agree that 1/21/2=(1)Whole. I can see evolving or growing into it since they were flesh at the time, but that does not change facts. 3) Both parents were demi-gods but you are not. Huh, how does that work? If one of your parents is 1/2 Irish and 1/2 German and the other is 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Italian, that would make you 1/2 Irish, 1/4 German and 1/4 Italian...1/2 of 1/2 is 1/4 after all...Again I can see evolving or growing into it, but the same fact still apply. What I hate about some Fan Fiction Stories: Stories with Harry and/or other characters being the descendants of the founders. I know it is FAN fiction, but come on people use your brains. The founders were roughly 1,000 year previous to Harry's time, it is silly to think that they married each other, though one couple is possible. With it being 1,000 years in the past and the age of people getting married being younger then than now, the average generation could easily be considered 20 years, so that is 50 generations, or 47-48 greats grandparents ago. The magical community is small in Britain, maybe between 100,000 and 1,000,000 it is canon as well as fanon that most if not all the pureblood families are related. Which means Harry is related to ALL his classmates at one level or another. So that would mean that EVERYONE who was pureblood or half-blood or squib-born would be descended from the Founders at one level or another. Me updating my stories: Expect my updates to continue to be updated infrequently, but more frequently than every couple years. My older stories are all on-hold for now as I go through and examine where I wanted and where I now want the story to go, at least one is on the chopping block (to be taken down), but I have not fully decided yet. The size of my stories: I detest stories that that the chapters are so short they literally are nothing more than a single scene in length, so I tend to go the opposite direction and do large chapters that average between 12 and 20 pages (on Word). Prologue are the exception they are supposed to be short. I usually create stories that are more than 10 but less than 20 chapters long. I tend to average about 16 chapters making it between 192 to 320 pages long. |
