Angela Jones

Angela is both a tough and compassionate woman. She tends to keep to herself and keeps much of her past a secret, but possesses a keen sense of intuition. She trusts her gut when it comes to other people. When first introduced to other people, she is very quiet. As time goes on, however, she’ll gradually open up. It is revealed that she does like art and music.

early life

Angela Jones

Jones was born on January 19, 1989, in Jackson, Mississippi. Her father, Derek Jones, is a mechanical engineer originally from Macon, Georgia, and her paternal grandfather, Gabe Jones, was a World War II vet and former friend of Steve Rogers. Her mother, Judith Greenstein, a schoolteacher and bookkeeper, came from an Ashkenazi Jewish family from Poland and Hungary. Jones has an older brother, Ezekiel, a visual artist; an older sister, Dana, an economics professor; and a twin brother, Colin. Angela also has an older half-sister from her mother’s first marriage.

As a child, Jones began displaying strange pyrokinetic abilities. She had little control over this power, and she’d lose what little control she had the more emotionally distressed she became. Angela and her parents were eventually approached by Charles Xavier, who offered Jones a spot in his school so she could get her education and learn to control her abilities. Her parents, while hesitant to agree at first, knew it was in her best interest to go. Jones had trouble fitting in at first; she wasn’t making the effort to connect with her teachers or classmates. It took nearly an entire year for her to even remotely open up to anyone at the school. By her second year, Jones was making more of an effort to socialize and connect, though she was still holding back some. She eventually managed to make a few close friends and was on good terms with some of her teachers. She also learned to control and expand her mutant abilities, much to her surprise and excitement. Jones made sure to visit her family whenever she had the opportunity.

Jones’ parents, especially her mother, valued the arts; they also encouraged their own children to form opinions of their own by engaging in family debates. Jones would eventually go off to attend Jackson State University’s College of Liberal Arts, where she’d get a Bachelor of Arts. During her university years, Angela would become good friends with a woman named Zoe Beaumont. After finishing college, the two women would leave Mississippi to live in New Mexico.

As a mutant, Angela has a genetic condition that allows her to access latent superpowers.

1.) Cosmic Fire Manipulation: Angela can shape, create, and manipulate cosmic fire from the depths of deep space; from celestial objects such as stars, meteors, constellations, planets/planetoids, etc. These flames can burn in space, and thus, do not need oxygen. The flames burn so intensely that matter is consumed without by-products such as ash. This power is the hardest for Angela to control, since it has a strong connection to her emotional state.

i.) Cosmic Fire Absorption: Angela can absorb both regular and cosmic fire, while removing it from its source, into her body and use it in various ways, gaining some sort of advantage, either by enhancing herself, gaining the drained power, using it as a power source, etc., either temporarily or permanently.

ii.) Eternal Flame Manipulation: Angela can create, shape, and manipulate flames that will never burn out, either scientifically or magically.

iii.) Cosmic Fire Attacks: Angela can release/use fire to attacks of various shapes and/or intensities, either projected, used as part of melee attacks, etc.

iv.) Ultimate Burning: Angela can burn anything, even if it’s non-flammable, incorporeal, or even conceptual entities, such as time. She can raise the temperature to absolute levels, creating scientifically unexplainable levels of particle energies; due to burning at such otherwise impossible levels, complete annihilation of an object at a sub-atomic level. “Fire Immunity” provides no defense against this ability and extinguishing it is difficult, if not impossible.

v.) Cosmic Fire Generation: Angela is able to generate and project cosmic fire.

vi.) Angela can manipulate the properties of cosmic fire.

vii.) Angela can also burn and/or melt things with cosmic fire.

viii.) Pyro-Telekinesis: Angela can use cosmic fire to heat the air surrounding an object and use that to lift the object via fire or heated air.

ix.) Fire Negation: Angela can negate fire and any fire-related attacks, ignoring the effects on herself and stopping their effects on creatures, objects, or buildings, such as stopping a building from burning down.

x.) Pyrokinetic Flight: Angela can use this ability to fly, guide, and/or levitate through manipulation of fire. She can fly at varying speeds, levitate, or propel herself without taking flight, including enhanced jumping by a short burst of flight.

2.) Telepathy: Angela can read/sense another person’s thoughts, communicate with them mentally or affect their minds/thoughts. This ability was the easiest for Angela to control, despite it showing up years after her initial ability’s manifestation. She’s been able to broaden her telepathic abilities, demonstrating the dedication she has for learning, controlling, and understanding her abilities.

i.) Mind Reading/Thought Detection: Angela can read/sense the thoughts of others.

ii.) Psychic Communication: Angela can open up secret conversations and relay covert information.

iii.) Empathy: Angela can interpret the emotions of others.

iv.) Mental Manipulation: Angela is able to deploy a form of mental manipulation, often as a type of illusory hypnosis. She can use this ability to cripple others, forcing them to recall certain events in their past and placing them in daydream-like visions, that can render them practically helpless. This also allows her to control people’s actions, causing them to experience a form of sleepwalking and susceptible to her control.

v.) Emotional Manipulation: Angela can use this power to elicit fear and emotional pain in a person in the form of nightmarish hallucinations that could stun or otherwise weaken an individual. The visions can depict things that a person regrets, fears, or general disturbances, though the nature of it is not up to Angela. She does know what her victims are seeing and will sometimes be in the visions with them without them being aware of her presence.

vi.) Telepathic Cloak: Angela can make herself invisible by manipulating the minds of others.

vii.) Mental Possession: She is able to enter the mind of another to control their body and see from their perspective.

viii.) Paralyzation: She can mentally paralyze others, making it appear as if time has stopped, although she can paralyze only the body without rendering people’s minds frozen as well.

ix.) Psionic Blasts: She can release psychic pulses that could effect hundreds of people across over a mile radius. They paralyze and torture all those effected, and could have killed anyone who was forced to experience it for more than a few minutes.

x.) Psionic Resistance: She is resistant to other people’s telepathy, making her very difficult to control. She can resist psychic attacks from others and protect her allies.

xi.) Mental Sedation: She can make others fall asleep simply by telling them to.

xii.) Psychic Shield: She can erect a psychic shield to protect the minds of herself and others.

xiii.) Psychic Torture: She can torture her victims mentally and spiritually.

xiv.) Thought Manipulation: She can control the thoughts of others.

xv.) Astral Projection: Angela can project her astral form from her body onto the astral planes or the physical planes. In the physical plane, she can only travel a short distance in astral form. In the astral plane, she can mentally create psionic objects and manipulate the aspects of her environment. She can communicate with others astrally through her own will, or through contact with the thoughts and memories of others.

xvi.) Precognition: Angela has occasionally shown the ability to see visions of the future during a trance or through precognitive dreams.

xvii.) Death Sense: Angela can sense the coming of death, determining when someone is dead or dying or died in a specific location. This may extend to seeing the names and lifespans of those she sees.

xviii.) Trauma Healing: Angela can heal mental trauma through “psychic surgery”, the power to stimulate or deaden the pain and pleasure centers in a person’s brain.

She is, essentially, half-African American and half-Jewish. So she has light brown skin, tightly curled black hair, deep brown eyes, and a slender build. She stands at 5 ft. 3 inches.

1.) Emotional Stability: If Angela is under emotional distress, she’ll lose control of her powers.

2.) Pretty Much Everything Else: She can get injured and killed just as easily as everyone else. Angela’s abilities don’t give her any kind of invulnerability, so yeah.

Jones identifies as Jewish. She remains close with her family, even after moving to New Mexico. She had a close relationship with her paternal grandfather, Gabe Jones, and grew up hearing stories of his time in the war and the friendships he had with Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Peggy Carter, and the other Commandos.
