![]() Author has written 1 story for Batman. A 25-year old unemployed history post-graduate from the United Kingdom, with a strong love for fantasy, science-fiction, noir thrillers and period/mood pieces, as well as Anime and Comics of various kinds. I've been writing and roleplaying and reading good stories and articles on story-writing and all manner of things for well over 11 years now, and have only recently made my first foray into publicly available fan-fiction. Some might say it's a bit late to be writing stories in a medium that is essentially derivative and infamous for its generally poor quality and overwhelming emphasis on romance-fantasy and sexual pairing fictions, however I dared to dream, or more specifically, had a dream, a dream of Barbara Gordon with a Joker's smile and no family to support her, a dream where Batman never was and Gotham is overshadowed by the fires of a burning oil-rig. It was a strange dream certainly, but, perhaps motivated and inspired by the success of great unconventional works of fan-fiction like Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, I sought to realise that dream, and in a burst of almost-unique willpower I've managed to hammer out a significant chunk of this story so far, with ambitions to potentially write more stories of similar themes and emphasis. However, it remains to be seen if writing Superhero stories without those eponymous superheroes, and in a substantially more serious, darker tone(something that can easily lead to accusations of grimdark/copying Nolan, or will put people off entirely.) will remain my hobby of choice. If you're reading this, though, hopefully you disagree. So, welcome, and please, if you like my work, do two things. One, tell everyone you know! And two, leave a review! FANDOMS: -Batman -Rationality Fics(see HPMOR for the sub-genre definer.) -World of Darkness OTHER INTERESTS: -Have written smutfics off-site for Fantasy and Sci-fi settings. -Have been roleplaying via Skype, forums, message-boards for many years now and continue to do so. -Enjoy reading dense nerdy articles deconstructing tropes, elements of story, and pop cultural media and literature. -Anime, DnD, Old World of Darkness lore, Books, TV series, Movies. I have alot of interests and can be very open-minded to new things. PROGRESS REPORT: So I haven't updated this in a long-ass time, though I have been tentatively revising the earlier chapters based on feedback from a friend who was finally able to give me much needed beta-reading support. I want to thank everyone who has left Reviews and expressed interest in this project, despite my long periods of absence and seeming inactivity. I hope to get down to finishing my revision of the first 20 Chapters soon, and hopefully add more when I can. I won't give any dates, I think its been pretty well established I am not very good at meeting deadlines for all manner of reasons(Ok, mostly laziness...) but when it goes up, hopefully you'll be notified! Barbara's story will be finished one day, of that I promise you. I very much have enjoyed this project and, even if it takes me another year, I will complete it, for my own peace of mind if nothing else. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: -A big thanks to Michael Shane "Gwynplaine" Rose for continued support with "Twilight in Gotham", as an ideas-man and someone whose love and enthusiasm for the DC Universe and Batman lore in particular has been immeasurably helpful. Look out soon for his own work! He is also the author of the Letter "Lonely" which appears in the Act One Interlude. Many thanks for that! - Thank you also to "Nice Wizard" for writing the next two Riddles that the Riddler will be showing off. I fear my earlier Riddle seems fairly weak next to his own style and efforts, and I hope they give everyone a decent flavour of this character. Its always tricky writing someone who is smarter than you, but I hope I have done the character some justice. Thank you also to everyone who has shown interest in the project already, and continues to enjoy the story as it unfolds. Its early days, but I promise that you will not regret reading this story before its through. |
