Arthur is well on the way to becoming the type of leader Merlin had always hoped he'd be - one who cares for all of his people. But even so, preparations for Yule festivities along with some unforeseen circumstances result in Merlin taking on too much work. Unfortunately nobody notices until it's almost too late.

A visiting noble makes Arthur an offer he can't refuse, putting Merlin's secret in jeopardy. The warlock takes drastic action, risking his health and ability to respond when crisis strikes. Features, angst, whump, bromance and BAMF Merlin.

Merlin grows up in care, and it breaks him. Then he meets Arthur, who wants to put him back together.

Merlin saves the day - yet again - when he manages to get an injured Arthur and knights to safety. But Merlin's troubles are far from over when an investigation into what had happened to the king and knights leaves him in a bad way, and now it's Arthur and Gwaine's turn to be there for him. Merlin's magic is revealed and Arthur struggles with his views on magic and the issue of trust. It takes talks with Gwen and Gaius, as well as a display of innocent magic viewed secretly from a bush, to make him realise that nothing which truly mattered has ever really changed. Post-S3, will now be considered AU.

Merlin and Arthur don't have much to celebrate this year. Morgana's a turncoat, Uther is dead, and Gwen is gone. Not to mention Gaius was called out of town. So when some knights take out their boredom on Merlin, the pair have to fix everything themselves
