As a dedicated Romanophile I would wish if there are more Rome-based fics, but I also read Harry Potter and Les Misérables, Matrix, Gladiators, etc. and pretty much any films/contemporary novels which I read. However I read more of non-fiction or classics, so please understand if I am not aware of a fandom's existance.
Brevis Lux means 'brief light,'; the ancient Roman poet Catullus likened life to a 'brief light,' in the following poem (Catullus 5) which is one of my favourites. My 'loosely-literal' translations are beneath the Latin text btw.
Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus inuidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.
Let us live, my Lesbia, and let us love,
and of all the rumours of the sterner old
let us value them to be only a penny!
the suns may set and again rise;
but for us, once sets our brief light,
one endless night ought to be slept.
give me a thousand kisses, then a hundred,
and another thousand, then a second hundred,
then up to another thousand, and a hundred.
then, with the many thousands we will have made,
we will confuse the counting, so that we may not know,
or lest that any malevolent eye is cast upon us, envying
and reckoning how many kisses there be.
