Beast Boy is stature and quick with a joke, can shift into the form of any animal - from a tiger to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Starfire is new to Earth and naïve to its ways, but when it is time for a throwdown, she fights as hard as any of the others. The spooky, deadpan Raven can control inanimate objects with her powerful mental abilities. Hulking Cyborg is half-man, half-machine and the most powerful member of the team. But Teen Titans is not all about superpowers and bad guys. Like most teens, they love hanging out with their friends, playing video games and going to parties. As adolescents, they are trying to find their place in the world and dealing with their growing pains as well as they can. The Teen Titans live together in a giant T-shaped tower that's part high-tech command center and part ultimate teen hangout. There's every video game console ever created, a weight room, a huge TV - anything a superhero would want. But there are also stacks of dirty dishes in the sink and races to snag the last soda in the refrigerator. Quotes! Aqualad: Fish tacos? What were you thinking? I'm from the ocean! These were probably friends of mine! Brother Blood: about Bumblebee Another spy! Tell me, was anyone at my school actually there to LEARN? Cyborg: trying to convince Raven to come to the birthday party they're throwing for her We've got a pinata shaped like Beast Boy. You know you wanna smack it. the Teen Titans arrive back at the Tower. Starfire bursts through the door, gleeful Raven: I always thought you were funny, BB. But I guess looks aren't everything. Beast Boy and Cyborg are fighting, trying to fnid the remote control Cyborg: infected with a computer virus I know what we should do! Let's go get some waffles! Raven you like waffles, don't you? Fullmetal Alchemist / Hagane no Rekinjutsushi ((Anime/Manga)) Both a manga and anime series based on two young brothers who are able to perform alchemy ((heck yes! My like favorite show!)) and originally created by the fantastic artist Hiromu Arakawa. Edward and Alphonse Elric were children living in the rural village of Rizembool in the country of Amestris. Their father, an alchemist, had left home when Edward was very young and Alphonse was a baby. Years later, their mother, Trisha Elric, died of an illness. The boys decide to attempt to revive their deceased mother. They study alchemy with a teacher and then use their father's notes to recreate a human transmutation circle. However, this attempt fails, costing Alphonse his entire body and Edward his left leg. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm to "affix" his brother's soul to a suit of armor. After that, Edward's left leg and right arm are fitted with two sets of Automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb. AState Alchemistby the name of Roy Mustangarrives during the failed transmutation in response to letters the boys had sent out seeking information about their father. After seeing their skill at alchemy, Mustang suggests that the way to achieve their goals is to become a State Alchemist and work for him. Spurred on by the man's proposal, Edward sets out to become a State Alchemist, enabling him to use the resources available to State Alchemists to discover a way to restore what he and Alphonse have lost. The brothers eventually learn of the Philosopher's Stone and set off in search of it as a means to restore their bodies. " Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth." " I just can't just forget who I was...but I can accept who I am now. What I was was me, and what I am now is also me. I'm not one or the other. People aren't that simple." pg.122 in Fullmetal ALchemist: The Vally of White Petals Vol. 3 — Alphonse Elric I heart the fourth opening theme! Eureka Seven ((Anime/Manga)) Eureka Seven is a story set in a distant future. A few years previous, mankind were threatened by a mysterious phenomenon named "Summer of Love," but according to official history, it was stopped by a military researcher called Adrock Thurston who gave his life to protect mankind. Renton Thurston, the series's main character and Adrock's son, is a fourteen-year-old boy who idolizes Holland, the leader of a group of mercenaries. Called Gekko State, the group is apparently just an independent militia that stands against the policies of a belligerent and oppressive government, but their true objective is to make contact with the "Coralians," sentient hidden creatures that also inhabit that world, in order to prevent the United Federation of Predgio Towers's imminent war against them, for the control of the planet. The story revolves around Renton's joining Gekko State and his budding relationship with the mysterious Eureka, a female member of Gekko State and pilot of the LFO Nirvash typeZERO. When Renton and Eureka pilot the Nirvash together, powered by the mysterious "Amita Drive", it becomes almost invincible, and can liberate a massive amount of rainbow colored energy in a phenomenon named "The Seven Swell". Immortal Grand Prix ((I.G.P.X)) ((Anime)) IGPX takes place in 2035 where Team Suzaku and Team Sledge Mamma are preparing to meet in the final round of the 12th Immortal Grand Prix (IGPX). Takeshi leads Team Suzaku, which is made-up of a group of young amateur pilots who must make the most of their limited funds and weaponry in order to prepare for the competition designed for professionals. Team Sledge Mamma consists of three professional, cybernetic opponents who are known to be merciless and have remained undefeated throughout this year's competition. Each IGPX battle matches two teams with 3 mechas, high tech fighting machines. Utilizing any form of weaponry within the regulated weight limit, the pilots of these fighting machines must defeat all of the Mechs belonging to the opposition. The pilots are protected from injury during battle in a Hide Shell. Once a Mech is significantly damaged during competition, the Hide Shell is ejected. After achieving 12 victories in previous rounds, two teams advance to the championship competition. One Piece ((Manga/Anime)) One Piece is set in a fictional world, where pirates run rampant in an era known as the "Age of Piracy". This age was inaugurated with the execution of Gold Roger, the King of Pirates. With his last words, Roger declared that all of the treasure he had collected was up for grabs, if it could be found, and that he left all of it "there." The story of One Piece begins with the Age of Piracy well underway, and follows the adventures of a 17-year-old pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, who intends to become the next King of Pirates. Luffy's body was turned to rubber after he ate a cursed fruit known as a Devil Fruit (Akuma no Mi). Luffy's particular fruit was the Gum-Gum Fruit, or Gomu Gomu no Mi in the Japanese release ("gomu" means "rubber"). WhileTheDevilFruits grant their eaters fantastic powers (Luffy, for example, can stretch like rubber), it comes at the cost of never being able to swim, and in fact becoming complete dead weight upon being submerged in water. (This weakness may have a historical basis, as many real pirates were unable to swim.) The story features many pirates with super powers gained from the Devil Fruit, but the main focus of the story is that of Luffy and his crew striving to achieve their dreams while fighting those who would crush the hopes and dreams of others. Some villains are reformed by their contact with Luffy and his crew, while others are given a sound beating. Though the Straw Hat Pirates are technically outlaws to the World Government and its Navy, they are much truer to their ideals than both other pirates and the corrupt establishment. Naruto ((Manga/Anime)) Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the Kyūbi no Yōko (Nine-Tails Demon Fox) attacked Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village. It was a powerful demon indeed; a swing of the tails of the Kyūbi would raise tsunamis and flatten mountains. It raised chaos and slaughtered the people, until the leader of Konoha – the Fourth Hokage – defeated it by sacrificing his own life to seal Kyūbi inside a newborn child whose origins are yet unknown. That child's name was Uzumaki Naruto ( ! ). The Fourth Hokage was remembered as a hero for sealing the Kyūbi away, and he wanted Naruto to be remembered as a hero as well for being the vessel of containment for the fox demon, but the village he grew up in had mostly contempt for Naruto, because of the tragedy that was brought to them by the same demon that's living inside Naruto. A decree made by the Hokage made it so that the other villagers were forbidden to mention the event to anyone, even their own children. However, this did not stop them from treating Naruto like an outcast. Although their children did not specifically know why their parents treated Naruto the way they did, they learned through example to despise the boy. As result, Naruto grew up as an orphan in a lonesome atmosphere without friends, family or acknowledgment. He could not force people to befriend him, so he sought acknowledgment and attention the only way he knew – through pranks and mischief. But that would soon change; Naruto is about to face the ninja academy graduation exam – a gateway to the events and people that will change and define his world and his way of the ninja for the rest of his life. Naruto maintains a balance between drama and comedy. It follows Naruto and his friends' personal growth and development as ninja, and emphasizes their interactions with each other and the influence of their backgrounds on their personalities. Naruto finds two friends and comrades in Uchiha Sasuke and Haruno Sakura, two fellow young ninja who are assigned with him to form a three-man team under a very experienced sensei named Kakashi. The main character, Kiyo Takamine (Kiyomaro Takamine in the Japanese version), is a 14-year old boy in junior high school. His father, Seitaro Takamine, discovers an unconscious mamodo named Zatch Bell (Gash Bell in the Japanese version) while in a rainforest in England. His father sends the demon to be Kiyo's mentor. One hundred demons go to Earth every 1,000 years to battle to be the king of the demon world. Each demon needs a human partner in order to use his or her spell book, and if his or her spell book is destroyed, the demon gets to returned to the demon world. Zatch forgets everything about the demon world, due to a loss of memory, learning who he was the hard way. Kiyo and Zatch have to defend themselves from other demons who want to be the king of the demons Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2GIG ((Anime/Manga)) Taking place in a fictional city of Japan called "Niihama-shi" (New Port City) in the year 2030, Stand Alone Complex tells the story of a special operations task-force called Public Security Section 9, or simply "Section 9". The series follows the exploits of Section 9's agents who range from ex-military to ex-police as they address each case and how it affects them on a personal level, eventually leading to the mysterious figure dubbed by the media as "The Laughing MAn". Public Security Section 9 is an elite domestic anti-crime unit charged with the task of preemptive prevention of technology-related acts of terrorism and crime. Their duties include response to serious cyber crimes investigation of unlawful acts of those in public office and of high profile murder cases. From time to time they also serve as protection to foreign VIPs. ''It is a time when, even if nets were to guide Totally Spies ((Television Show)) Totally Spies stars three teen aged superspies from Beverly Hills: Sam, Clover, and Alex, who fight international crime with their special gadgets supplied by their boss, Jerry, a member of the secret World Organization of Human Protection (WHOOP) agency. Among their enemies are Tim Scam, Max Exterminus, and Simon Tucker. They must carry out their missions while still being concerned about tests, boys (like David), and their school rival, Mandy, an extreme prima donna. Yotsuba&! ((Manga)) The series is centered on the antics of Yotsuba Koiwai (see characters), a six year old adopted girl who is energetic, cheerful, curious, strange and quirky; in fact, she's so strange and quirky that even her own father calls her a weirdo. She's also completely ignorant about a large number of things one would expect a child of her age to know about, among them doorbells, escalators, and even playground swings; this not only adds to her weirdness, but also allows for humorous stories where she first learns about and/or misunderstands these everyday things. She and her father, Koiwai, have recently relocated to a new neighborhood with the help of Koiwai's best friend, an impressively tall man nicknamed "Jumbo." Yotsuba makes quite an impression on the neighboring Ayase family's three daughters Asagi, Ena, and Fuuka, whose interactions with her often lead to hilarious misadventures. Though there seems to be no central plot and the story is mainly "about nothing," the main focus of the manga is Yotsuba's voyage of discovery. Within that process, the reading audience is on the same voyage to discover more about the characters, especially Yotsuba. Each chapter has a prevalent theme or object pertaining to its title. This theme often is something that Yotsuba discovers for the first time, or other characters deal with which Yotsuba introduces. Her Dad: "She can find happiness in anything. Nothing in this world can get her down. Nothing." ILY! -bre |
