Steve's happiness is turned upside down when he receives some devastating news that leaves him powerless, betrayed and torn.

In the wake of Danny's decision to help his son, he is faced with his own fight for life leaving Steve and the team with no options but to painstakingly help him from a distance.

As the team emerge with Steve after his final stand against Wo Fat, he is left to publically struggle with the earth shattering admission of who Wo Fat was. Answers have led to more questions, and Steve knows the only person who can answer them now is Doris.

Steve, Danny, Catherine and Grace head over to the mainland for a vacation. Danny is struggling with Grace's direction in life and seeks Steve's help in trying to talk her around. Steve believes that Danny is over reacting, as usual, but agrees to help him out. As Steve and Grace spend some time together, disaster strikes leaving him fighting to save Grace no matter what the cost.

As McGarrett moves to start building a life outside of 5-0 his world suddenly implodes. The events leave him isolating himself and in a tale spin which the team must fight together to stop. Danny worries about his partners frame of mind and feels helpless as Steve struggles in a way he's never seen before and heads towards a darkness he may never recover from.
