![]() Australian 19 year old, studying History, Ancient History and Classical Languages at the University of Newcastle and absolutely loving it. While I love reading and writing Twilight Fanfiction, I will admit that I am not a fan of the story written by Stephenie Meyer (hides behind blanket). I loved Twilight when I was younger, but after a while realised that as far as storytelling, grammar and writing went, it was pretty shoddy work. At the bare bones, Twilight is a GOOD story, a little unoriginal perhaps but thats how something becomes unorginal by being so good lots of people want to write that story. I have nothing against Meyer's Vampire/Werewolf/Shapeshifter mythos, in fact I thought a lot of that was quite clever. What I struggle with reading Twilight is Edward and Bella's actions towards themselves and each other. I find Bella (Post Twilight) whiny and waaaay to dependent on the men in her life (Edward and Jacob). I remember reading New Moon and thinking "my god girl! pick yourself up, yes you're devastated but you have people who care about you other than the dick who left and you have responsibilties to them." Edward was no better, he makes unilateral decisions which affect both him and Bella, which I think shows he has very little respect and trust for her. Don't even get me started on the whole Bella/Jacob thing in Eclipse, Bella was a selfish bitch, Edward needed to grow a pair. Wow really didn't mean to rant there... and i'm pretty sure I just opened myself up to a whole lot of hate (hides again). But Twilight Fanfiction is amazing, there are so many amazing writers who write incredible stories, it definatey opened me up to genres i'd never considered reading before. |
