What is an CPN Number Maybe you are trying to protect your Social Security Number since so many people you know personally have had problems with identity theft or credit card fraud. So, you really can repair your credit! There is hope! How does it work? This process creates a new credit profile for you legally as long as you comply with the rules set up by the Federal Government through this program. There are a lot of legitimate companies online that will help you apply for a CPN number for a fee. A CPN number is a nine-digit number just like a Social Security Number that is used on credit applications instead of using your primary Social Security Number. The CPN is only to be used for applying for credit. A process called TRI-Merge links your name, date of birth, address, new phone number and Credit Profile Number in order to report your new and improved credit situation to all three major credit reporting agencies. A CPN is not meant to take the place of the Social Security Number permanently, this is meant as a throwaway number that you keep just long enough to fix your credit.
