He was a farmer and physician who in the Civil War served for a Confederate soldier with the 53rd New york Regiment. The collection is a typed transcription of the intermittent diary, 1863-1865, kept by Green although he was a Confederate gift on active duty in along with the 53rd North Carolina Regiment, in army hospitals with Lynchburg, Va., and Charlotte now, N. C., and with furlough, November 1864-March 1865; and 1865-1869 and 1872 even though he was farming at home near Marshville in Union County.
