Throughout history, there have been succeeding Heroic Ages, in which the fabulous occurs throughout the omniverse. The legends of Greek and Roman mythology, the Medieval ballads and epics, the great Victorian novels: all of these have been Ages of Heroes. Each ends with a great cataclysm, in which the greatest heroes of the omniverse meet to usher in the next Age. Now, as the Twenty-First Century proceeds, the Eleventh Age draws to a close. The walls between universes begin to shatter, allowing passage throughout the dimensions. Heroes and Villains from vastly different worlds stand and fight together as age-long conflicts heighten in intensity. The Twelfth Age of Heroes has begun... A Mortal's Guide to the Omniverse During my stories, I will quite often use terms like "multiverse", "omniverse", and "megaverse". While major dimensional beings may comprehend these terms easily, it can be a bit more complicated for us mortals to understand. Therefore, I have prepared this simple guide to explain the scope of things in terms we can understand. OMNIVERSE: The Omniverse is the plane of reality as we or anyone else knows it. There is only one omniverse, and everything is in it. Every fiction book you've ever read, every movie you've ever seen, every game you've ever played, every legend you've ever heard, every story on this website: Everything is it's own alternate universe, and each one fits into the omniverse. MEGAVERSE: This is where things get a little more complicated. In my stories, megaverses are groups of multiverses in close proximity to each other. It is much easer to travel from one universe to another if both universes in question are in the same megaverse. In real life, megaverses are made up of universes coming from the same author, company, or series, but otherwise unrelated to each other. Some examples include the Nintendo megaverse, the Disney megaverse, or the Universal Pictures megaverse. MULTIVERSE: Multiverses are groups of universes that are bound by certain laws of reality. They often consist of universes that deviate from each other greatly or slightly, but still follow the same basic timeline. For instance, multiverses often are populated with alternate versions of their inhabitants. They are often governed by an entity that exists in each separate universe, co-existing in each one at the same time. For example, each universe in the Marvel multiverse is observed by the Watchers, an alien race dedicated to observing and researching each universe, but never interfering in the activity of mortal races (with the exception of Uatu, who has taken a liking to the mortals he observes, and who often protects them to the best of his ability). Another example is the Kingdom Hearts multiverse, in which each universe is protected by the wielder of the mystic Keyblade. Dimensional travel within a multiverse is the easiest to achieve, so inhabitants are often more aware of each other then they are of separate megaverses. UNIVERSE: This is, quite simply, one reality. Although different planets or galaxies can exist in one universe, it is usually the case that a universe follows a single timeline, separate from other universes. SUB-UNIVERSE: Occasionally, a smaller universe may co-exist inside a larger one. These sub-universes resemble planets more than universes, and are usually affected by the outside forces of the greater universe more often than one universe will affect another. Confused yet? I thought so. Explaining these terms is difficult, which is probably why the higher forces are in charge, and we aren't. Stories: Current: Kingdom Hulk. Based around the events of Planet Hulk, the Incredible Hulk journeys to the world of Kingdom Hearts and becomes the Keyblade Wielder. Upcoming: X-Men/Sonic. The X-Men journey to the alternate dimension of Mobius. Now, heroes of two worlds must contain a war between two deadly foes: Dr. Eggman and Magneto. Mario Bros: Year One. The untold story of how two Brooklyn plumbers became heroes. Super Smash Bros: Doomsday. A group of the omniverse's greatest heroes unites on a multiverse-spanning adventure to halt the plans of the nefarious Dr. Doom and his Acts of Vengance. Dead Men Walking. When dead heroes and villains throughout the omniverse rise in a plague of the undead, only a select team of heroes can send them back to their graves. |
