I'm not really sure what to say about me that anyone might care about so I thought I'd use "The Secret Language of BIRTHDAYS" by Gary Goldschneider & Joost Elffers. (Incidentally I really hate the '&' symbol but that was how the book credited them.) I own a lovely copy of the book with my name engraved on the cover but the rights belong to those two there. So enjoy page 720 and learn about me, from complete strangers to both of us, based only on the day I was born! Quote: The Secret Language of BIRTHDAYS, Those born on February 4 rarely do anything in a straight-line fashion. Because of their unconventionality, they sometimes make a less than stellar impression as to their intellect, but in fact they just have their own unusual way of doing things. Some February 4 people realize early on that they do not apprehend the world as others do, and respond by just acting as weird as they wish. Other February 4 people try to be super-straight, but usually fail to carry this off, ending up like a round peg in a square hole. The happiest February 4 people are plainly themselves and do not rely on a great deal of approval or acclaim. The degree to which those born on this day must do things their own way can be both amusing and alarming. Often to accomplish the simplest of tasks, they can use the most roundabout off-the-wall-methods. They could be called impractical or even perverse except for the fact that in some strange way these methods seem to work out for them. For example they may have a system of filing information or ordering their appointments that would confuse others and yet they are able to retrieve what they need very quickly, and stay on top of things. In their unusual cognition, front may be back, up down, right left, and so on. Some February 4 people may even display a degree of synesthesia, that is, hearing sounds as colors, colors as sounds, visualizing words as shapes and perhaps remembering facts and numbers through vivid associations. Though not always effective within the confines of a preexisting system or set of rules, it must be said that February 4 people can be highly effective in achieving long-range goals, particularly when they have a chance to structure the work environment. Those born on this day work well with others, display deep human qualities and are generally admired for their sincerity. Although rarely leaders, they are very happy to be at the center of the action and hold up well under fire. February 4 people get bored easily, and if they spend a lot of time alone usually try to keep busy with a lot of hobbies, projects and activities. Part of the reason they are so active is that they must spend lots of time undoing knots which they have unwittingly tied. Also they tend to backtrack a lot, or even start all over. February 4 people usually have an abundance of energy with which to carry out their many tasks. How to guide their power in the most directly constructive way, however, may well elude them. Often they are taken up with several different endeavors at once, and through the resultant scattering of energy fail to complete any of them to their satisfaction. Generally, those February 4 people who learn to complete their projects step by step and one by one, develop their varied potential to the fullest. There you go. I'm also the oldest of two children and the only son. My sister is six years younger than I am and is highly influential of me if I do say so myself. My favorite relative is my uncle, with whom I live during my college term since he lives just a few minute by car from the main campus. I blame my friend for knowing the proper usage of whom...well her and German class since we were tested on when to use ver and ven the German equivalents of who and whom. I don't speak German by the way, my high school curriculum required I take a foreign language for at least two years and I chose German...and French. As for my writing style? I have a tendency to ramble (and to interrupt myself from time to time). I don't like original characters much for anything other than place holder: shop clerks, doctors or nurses, teachers, parents, basically anyone that needs to show up for some reason but don't have a large impact on the story that would take away from the main characters since they have a tendency to come of as Mary Sues, or at least end up with borderline Sue-ish tendencies. So isn't it wonderful that I'm working on a story with not one but 14 original characters as my first work? Of course years of roleplaying has broken me of the "OC! Must avoid!" habit so I can tolerate them if they're done well enough. I'll probably stay in the gaming category for awhile. Kingdom Hearts, Phantasy Star Universe, Tales of (the Abyss mostly, but I did enjoy Symphonia). Right now I'm working on a Kingdom Hearts fiction, but as far as I can see my first story won't be out for a long time. I keep going back to page one to rework the characters because A and B are too similar in personality or character 3 is getting too much screen time, or heaven forbid I spend too much time on their motivations and why they want to destroy the keyblader, and not enough time on Sora Kairi and Riku's adventure which is why people are probably reading the story in the first place. I've said before: I'm like Jade...and old people. None of us have the time to scold people, or critic stories, we don't like. I don't review everything I read. Hate me for it if you want but I see no point in the: "I love it update soon!" reviews. They're nice, but they don't do much to help people improve. In fact, constantly hearing how great your writing is, it could make someone complacent: "I'm already a great writer; I don't need to improve," and who wants that? If I review to something it's because I have something to say about it, either a compliment on a certain style or idea, or to offer some advice that I think might help. If I do review, telling you that you should do something or change anything, keep in mind that it's only a sugestion; it's your story and you should write it the way you are most comfortable regardless of what I say. I'm only bothering you with it because I think the story, or you as a writer, can turn out to be really great with a little work. Not to say you aren't already good,I wouldn't have bothered finishing the chapter if I didn't enjoy it(I know very well where the little [x] button is and I'm not afraid to use it); or I thought it just wasn't good. And why would I waste my time reviewing something if I can't stand it? but there is always room for improvement; however, to improve, you need to know what to work on, so I'll tell you what I think needs work. My opinion. Could be right, could be wrong, I'll let you decide. But I'll offer it anyways. |
