![]() Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter. Something about me...:/ I'm an undergrad studying for an economics degree in Peking University, China. I fit the stereotype - long straight black hair, lousy physical abilities, hectic studying, math-lover, glasses:) I love to read. Anything - absolutely anything written in the English language is fine. Classics, contemporary, good stuff and bad... Okay, maybe not the bad. My favs on this site are Harry Potter, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and anything Austen, though I always scan for fanfics here after finishing a novel. Fav couples are: Draco/Asteria, Lucius/Narcissa, Scorpius/Rose from HP (...Malfoys), Erik/Meg from POTO (seriously, Christine doesn't deserve him); Eponine/Enjolras, Eponine/Montparnasse, Marius/Cosette from Les Miz. I don't read slash. Never. Ever. With all due respect to people who like slash, can someone please tell me why there are so friggin' much of it on this site? Before FFN added the "without" filters I was going crazy from all the Drarry on HP, Enjy/Grantaire on Les Miz, Ralph/Jack/Roger on Lord of the Flies (seriously...?) and so, so much more. My favorite novels (un-fanfic-wise) are Lolita (Nabokov is one of my favorite authors), Tropic of Cancer, 1984, On Hundred Years of Solitude. Favorite band: Nightwish. Their music always triggers something in my heart. I love Tuomas xD No, I'm definitely not in the fangirl "omghe'ssoamazing" stage and it's not even idolizing. Asides from NW, Green Day is also one of my all-time favs, along with Kamelot, Epica, Iron Maiden, As I Lay Dying. Genre? definitely symphonic metal. It combines two of my obsessions - hard metal and orchestra/choir - into one epic, thrilling, amazingly artistic piece. Big thanks to my awesome friends for their encouragement, but I don't write. Don't have the time or stamina to produce anything that meets my own crazily high standards. Last note. Many of my friends (from the web and otherwise) have asked why I love Draco/Asteria so much, since - quote - "no offence, but there isn't one single mention of her in the books." Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so here is mine: 1 Draco isn't compatible with anyone in the books. He possesses an innate git-ness which I believe could not be eradicated; he and a Gryffindor will live in perpetual misery. A Ravenclaw isn't that interesting for him. I mean, he can change, but not THAT much. I've read a lot of D/Ginny, DHr, D/Luna but... somehow, I don't find it possible. Pansy? Please, no. 2 That's precisely why the need arises to introduce a new character, someone he would be perfect with. 3 Asteria is flexible. She can be anything you want her to be without being OOC. I really hate OOC fics - hate. It feels as if the writer isn't paying JKR's characters enough respect, but that's just my opinion. The worst fate for her would be a. without a personality, b. Mary-sue. Sues are actually few and far between, and a good writer always incorporates a personality. She's easy to write and enlightening to read, without having to fall into cliches (Dramione) or suffering OOCness (Luna). 4 Why Draco/Asteria and not Draco/OC? Because OCs are often Harry's sister, Voldemort's daughter etc, someone from the future, someone with funky names and funky abilities, or a misnamed Slytherin-ish Hermione. Can this be a more obvious Sue!alert? o_0 Asteria is normal. She's a normal girl who falls in love with a normal boy. Despite her flexibility, the simple fact that JKR singled her out for Draco's canon spouse makes her realistic, normal and potentially loveable. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I'd love to discuss this with anyone, anytime:) |
