![]() This author has written 0 stories. Name: Josh Age: 18 The Only Pairings That Are Worth ANYTHING HP Harry/Ginny Draco/Hermione other than them I'm not too picky I do like Neville/Luna though ps. post message me if you have any questions about reviews I left , or anything else that comes to mind. Or if you want a sneak peak into After the End (Yes i do know that its been done before but I think that my storyline is different than all the others out there that are really just more of the same. I really HOPE it is anyway) pps. I DON'T USUALLY DO SLASH, in any sense: i don't read it, i don't write it, i don't see it, it is unatural. Please don't hate me because of it, I don't care if it happens as long as I don't have to see/hear/read it. Summaries: ‘better than it sounds’ means it is not better than it sounds. ‘please give it a try’ occasionally accompanied by “first fanfic!’ means the author knows it’s really not great and is looking for pity. Any excuse such as ‘i suck a summaries’ is not an excuse. If you can write a story you can write two sentences about that story. If the summary does not have proper spelin, caPitaliZatiOn, and pu,nctu.atio!n the story will not either Canon: It’s canon not cannon. Unless you did some freaky Pirates of the Carribean/Harry Potter crossover you should not have the word cannon anywhere. Straying from canon is acceptable in the storyline NOT the universe. You are in the Harry Potter universe (or applicable universe) therefore Harry cannot manipulate the weather with his mind. And remember he does not have the power to turn off the stars (quoted from OOtP) Mary Sues: Possibly the most over-used fanfcition technique. I am one to admit that the world does need them occasionally but PLEASE try and make your original characters original. Do NOT write yourself into the story. Do NOT write your friends into the story. I’m sorry to say that if you are under the age of twenty-five you are most likely self-absorbed and really don’t understand that nobody CARES about your life. Always keep in mind what a Mary Sue is while writing, this will help you avoid having to find out you have a Mary Sue later. Don't forget about the less popular but equally horrible Gary Stu! You’re writing... what again? Know what you’re writing. Check your facts, get it right. It's Quidditch not Quittage. It’s one thing to be unable to write in character it’s another not know your character enough to get in character. OOC is not cool. If you recognize it, work on it. If you don’t, well, it really sucks to be your readers. The English Language: Alot is not a word. Allot is, but it has nothing to do with a lot. You never get something from ‘over their’ or ‘over they’re’ you get something from ‘over there’ it’s not ‘your happy’ it’s ‘you’re happy’ and the list goes on. You’re on fanfiction.net you have internet. Do not use the word ‘happy’ over, and over again because you cannot think of something else. Use an online thesaurus to come up with words even slightly better like ‘cheerful’ and ‘jovial’ If you haven’t heard of a word, or are unsure of its absolute meaning, LOOK IT UP before you use it. Spellcheck. USE IT. Betas: Have one. Have ten. They will help with your writing. They can make you’re writing hundreds of times better, but often, they aren’t looking for BIG projects. So if you know you are a mediocre at best author or your beta has been dropping hints (maybe not so subtle) about your work, it might be time for another beta. Just make sure you tell your beta’s if you have more than one! Really, there are people that would just love to edit your work for you. Let them. Reviewing: You read it. You want people to review your work. Even if it’s just saying ‘hey, loved the story’ you damn well better review. Constructive criticism people. It’s your job as a fanfiction reader to help the authors but subtly might be your best friend. If you’re trying to break some bad news to an author, make sure you point out the good things too! You made a choice to read it. No author deserves to hear their work is dirt. Flaming is not cool. Don’t do it. See above. being judgemental helps no one, be helpful instead Reviews: When someone goes to the trouble to give an honest helpful review to a struggling author, then you give them courtesy by checking them out and in turn giving honest helpful reviews to their work. You MUST reply to all reviews to your work. A simple ‘thanks’ works. Profile: It’s yours to do with what you wish. It should have something about you on it, even if all it says is you like ice-cream. Favourites are a select few, the best of the best. These are authors/stories you really enjoy reading and model your work after. Too many takes away the purpose, these are your favourite. Stories: Should be updated continually. A month is too long. A day... you need a life but I’m not complaining. ALL ABOVE RULES HAVE EXCEPTIONS! But you should be really sure you are one before you go breaking them! |
