We sat silently under the stars listening to nothing but the rhythm of our breathing. The still of the night was calming. Watching the shimmering of the distant stars, and the red flashing lights of the occasional plane that passed by overhead. Sharing stories about childhood past times kept our minds off the reality of the world. Nothing else mattered but the time underneath the endless sky. Letting go of everything and focusing on the simplicities of life that people often take for granted.

Neither of us uttered a word for hours. We let the sharp cold air of the night enter our lungs. We had nowhere to be and nothing to do. Our eyes would sort through the stars picking out the brightest and best and gazing at them longingly. Worries left us for the night, troubles took a vacation, and pain simply vanished. We could handle the world and whatever it could throw at us. Taking the unused time of night and turning it into the one time we could let go and finally be free to spread our wings, and soar with the birds, lay with the clouds, and speak with the stars.
