I do however love to think about how a world with magic and that kind of things would be like. Now, in my first story (Shadows of War) I allready have, and will again, cut the topic of religion, simply because I think it's far too important to be left out. You might have noticed, that I'm not too fond of the idea of religion (talking about the "big" religions here). Let me explain why: Most modern day religions are organizations with some kind of holy text, from which they draw their inspiration and their legitimation. And that is something I find VERY difficult to understand. I support people who have faith in some kind of "higher being" if it helps them through their lives, but I only support this as long as they are tolerant towards other believes, my atheism for example. In my opinion, no text, no book and no organization has the right to claim, that they tell the will of *insert the name of any kind of higher being here*. I think that religion is about finding your own belief, your own, personal "god", not some pre-made being you can just read about. If you want to have religion, you have to find it inside youself, not in a book. That being said, a further problem I have with religions is, that most of them claim to be the "only true religion". And that simple statement has caused humanity so much grief, that I simply can't believe any god would allow it. The crusades, islamistic terrorrists, you name it, people die because someone thinks they have the right to force others to belive in their religion. That is so WRONG! And that's why I think the people at Bungie did such a great job, when they created the "Mantle of Responsibility" for their Halo-universe. It's a philosophy about the strongest of all races looking after the inferior ones, caring for them and making sure they can prosper. It has no need for a god and is content with teaching it's followers (the Forerunners in this case) a code of tolerance and good morale, leaving other races to their own beliefs, as long as they don't inflict harm to the other races of the galactic community. That is how we are supposed to act! Not judging eachother for our religion, but for the people we are! Tolerance is the single most important trait, because without it, we, as a species, are doomed. Thank you for stopping by at my profile and I hope this doesn't offend any of you. -Darth Dagon |
