Hello there. You can call me Automatic. If you are, in fact, bothering to read my profile, let's clarify a few things, shall we? No, you do not need to know my gender, name, age, or personal occupation. Yes, I know I am a riveting specimen of the human species, but I draw the line at stalkerish tendencies. My humour, being English, is about as dry as the Sahara desert. Sarcasm is all the range here people. It's the lowest form of wit, so if you don't get it, you have the lowest form of intelligence. See 1. above, for a mild example. (That's about as far as my humour goes. I'm not a particularly funny person, and in writing, some things are funny that just wouldn't be when not in writing, so, yeah.) No, I do not make frequent spelling mistakes. I am British. Specifically English. Ergo, English slang, spelling and general terms. (P.s if I'm ever writing a character who lives in a different country for story purposes and you happen to live there, give me a heads up for stuff I mess up. I want to make my stories as true to culture and experience as possible and not offend anyone accidentally with a lack of knowledge. Thank you!) I don't tolerate bigoted comments. At all. Comment on the story, give constructive criticism or information or whatever, but don't post anything targeted at other groups of people, eg different ethnicities, genders, abilities, sexualities, etc. This is a creative platform, so no political hoo-haa either. Just... be nice? Is that so much to ask? There are so many different people out there, and just because you are incapable of walking a single step in another person's shoes, does not mean that that person's experiences and identity are any less valid or important than yours. I'm not saying you as in whoever reading this is definitely like that since I'm hoping that type of person is a minority here, but for those passing by who are, this is the only warning. And to be honest, why do you even care about how someone else lives their life as long as they aren't hurting others? You're the one hurting people here. So yeah. Be nice. Just have fun reading, and don't be afraid to leave constructive criticism and corrections. Don't be shy! Just trying to improve writing that is still very much a work in progress. I like to think of this account as practice with the added benefit of peer review. I may start crap. Just know that the more I do, and the more advice I get, the better I get and the more enjoyable my stories become. I have a thing for strong characters, and strange circumstances, after all if they were ordinary and oh-so relatable I wouldn't be writing a story about them now would I? Because they would stay at home and read fanfiction on their phones all day. There is something incredibly annoying when people scream "Mary-Sue!" and run for the hills like being a strong female character is a bad disease they don't want to catch. The number of Gary-Stus out there is astromically larger, and widely less complained about. So yes, my female characters will be strong, each in their own way, obvious or not. They will have some weird power or something strange about them, because c'mon, that's way more enjoyable to read and write about. If I wanted ordinary I'd be writing non fiction studies on the woes of teen life and beyond. So honestly, if you want to read about the whiny, quiet girl who wanders around, out of place with frankly stereotypical, "Oh no I keep embarrassing myself and making this torture to read but its fine cos I'm soooo realtable in my ordinary non Mary-Sue way" dialogue, this is not the place for you. There is always a certain amount of unrelatable content simply because if they were completely relatable, they wouldn't be written about, because they would be exactly the same as you and me - and who wants to read our life biographies? Exactly.
I attempt to make my characters diverse and interesting, but somehow they all fit into the same, slightly warped little box personality wise. Hopefully they'll change as I get better. Oh well. Bye. ~Automatic~ |
