Cabin Boy Alfred F. Jones thought his life at sea couldn't get anymore boring. Until one night, he and the crew captured a creature that they thought only existed in books and fairytales.

He grabbed onto his brother's hands. His breath felt tight and it took everything he had to keep the tears from spilling down his face. He tried to meet the solemn eyes looking down at him, but couldn't. He drew in a shuddering breath. His mouth opened and closed like a fish on land, dying for water, knowing that if he spoke he would cry. "Please."

Snufkin is hurt. Really, really hurt. Someone did this to him, and the Moomins are going to find out who. Little do they know, that the moment Snufkin's blood hit their doorstep they were opening themselves up to a new world of horrors. But strange creatures and evil folklore can't separate this family.
