Aubrey looks at the gift on the table and then back at Chloe. "Why did you come?" She says bluntly. Chloe shrugs. "It's your birthday party." "No one else is going to come." Aubrey says. "The rest of the kids hate me." (slight AU)

"Maybe this is your parents' way of making amends. You know, finally reaching out. What better way to do that than at the wedding?"

Not that they need the excuse of studying for English class to hang out anymore. They see each other on a daily basis and even though Aubrey doesn't know why Chloe decided that the person she wanted for her confidant was a shy and serious blonde, Aubrey's glad that she did.

Aubrey's a teenage girl so, of course, she hates plenty of things about herself. Liking girls, however, is not one of those things. It's, maybe, the one thing that she'll disagree with her father about to no end. That's okay too. Loving people doesn't always mean agreeing with them. (In which Aubrey grows up, finds the meaning of love and turns out surprisingly well-adjusted.) Gen.

Everyone grows up eventually. Aubrey was just forced to do it faster than most and just desperately wishes she hadn't.

It takes several moments in someone's life to discover something about someone. It takes Beca over a year to realize and it takes Aubrey a year to come to terms. "Because everyone contained certain depths to them, almost like lakes; Beca was fairly certain that Aubrey was on the shallow end." Slightly AU, from the beginning. Beca/Aubrey. Rated M.
