![]() Not much to say. I'm female, 45 now and a mother of 2. My daughter is 16and has her own account here writing her own stories. I don't write so if you are reading this, you probably received a review from me and are interested in who submitted it. I read all the time, sadly I don't review nearly as much. I only review when I feel especially strong about something, although I am starting to review more lately. I read a wide selection of fanfiction and started out reading Sherlock Holmes but have settled for Harry Potter, especially Severus Snape in many pairings and ratings. Have a bit of a rant I need to get out: Something I've always wondered about. Where does Severus get the beard from? I've seen it in a few fanfic stories. I know there was a concept sketch done by an artist for one of the American editions of the books but a beard is such a distinctive feature and would have been in the initial description of what Severus looked like in the book. Dumbledore and Hagrid's beards are described. Horace and Vernon's mustaches are also. If Severus had facial hair it would have been mentioned. As a side Severus has a Van Dyke in these sketches not a Goatee. They look almost the same but the Van Dyke has the mustache while the Goatee is just on the chin without a mustache. Another thing is in fanfiction it is frequently mentioned that Severus had his nose broken several times in the past. When we first see Dumbledore in the book he is described as having had a crooked nose because it had been broken as some point and not set. Severus has a hooked nose which is a specific nose shape and is not necessarily a result of injury such as a broken nose. And now I'm adding a third thing, less of a rant and more of an opinion. I think the Werewolf Incident happened in 5th year. I know there are some who put it in 6th year and there has been a bit of inconsistency in the when. Severus, said (in the 3rd book I think) that he knew Sirius was a murderer when he was 16 (making some think it happened in 6th year). In the memories Severus gives Harry, he is still on speaking terms with Lily and almost tells her of what happened. They stopped speaking during OWLS at the end of 5th year. Since Sirius' birthday is Autumn 1959 he would have been 16 just a few months into the school year. Severus' birthday is Jan 9, 1960 so if the Werewolf thing happened after Severus' birthday, they would both have been 16 at the time, but Severus would still have been speaking to Lily if it was before OWLS. (added June 2013) OK mini rant done. I don't normally add these lists but I liked this one: If you cried reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, please copy and paste this into your profile.[Dobby's burial, strange really since I didn't care much for the character himself] If you love Harry Potter, copy this into your profile.[Series yes, character . . . I can take him or leave him] If you liked Snape after Deathy Hallows copy and paste this in your profile.[I liked Severus long BEFORE Deathly Hallows, didn't stop after it] If you cried when Fred Weasley died (in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), and not afraid to admit it, copy, paste this on your profile. If you ever read past two in the morning, copy and paste this to your profile. If you spend multiple hours each day reading or writing, or a combination of both, copy and paste this into your profile. If you've been on the computer for hours on end, reading numerous fanfictions, copy this onto your profile If you are obsessed with fanfiction copy this into your profile If you have ever read a 250 pg book in less than one day, copy and paste this into your profile If you loved DH, HBP, OotP, GoF, PoA, CoS, and SS/PS, and know what all those initials stand for, copy and paste this on your account. If you read Deathly Hallows in under a week, copy and paste this, then add your name and how long it took you to read the book. (Cannotstopwriting - 1 day),(jasmineflower27 - 3 days),(ArianaRae - 2 days), (Susly - 1 day) (Lily.and.Alice - 3 hours) (Dimcairien - 2 days), (HarryTelcontarHolmes-12 hours), (Sithtar - 1 day) So thanks for reading and I'm sure I'll read more you've done in the future. I wish I had the wonderful talent to have created my avatar but I do not. Drawing titled "syrela" by Claire Salvatori. That is what it was called and the artist's name when I found it many years ago on Elfwood (not even sure if they still exist). I've decided to start a favourite quotes from Fanfiction stories. It's pretty short right now but I'm sure it will grow. Severus - "—it rebounded and struck the—You-Know-Who," he muttered. God, how he hated that stupid fucking name. At least it sounded dignified to be destroyed by a Dark Lord. You-Know-Who sounded like a disgraceful shag you didn't want to name. (from Come Once Again and Love Me chapter 4 by laventadorn) Lucius - (upon realizing just how many Muggles there are in the world) "There aren't just millions of them, Cissa … there are billions … with a B" [from Petunia's Boys chapter 3 by severusphoenix) Severus - (opinion of puberty) Puberty can be beyond satisfying, though, if you can stifle your hand-waving instincts for a while, while your voice is cracking, and don't let on you've perfected your public-school drawl until you've settled into a Turkish-coffee baritone that makes girls and half Potter's little gang walk into doorframes (Black only let himself be surprised once, but Lupin and Pettigrew keep on getting hypnotized like earth-tone baby birds; it's fantastic). (from About that Rantypants Brewery Swot with the Nose: chapter 4 by Nightfall Rising) Severus - "Even setting aside our personal animosity, he's a werewolf. He transformed without being contained. He nearly killed me along with Potter and his little sidekicks Wallace and Gromit. I will have enough on my plate without having to worry about werewolf bites." (from Headmaster Snape chapter 2 by Amarti) Severus & Harry - "Bravery isn't stupidity." Harry said, crossing his arms with a huff. "It's a very fine line." Snape conceded, melting some butter on the roll. "Most days your line seems to be perforated." (from The Definition of Home chapter 3 by oliver.snape) Severus & Harry - "And as for fighting, I bet you're in my club now." Dark eyes were still narrowed from the comment Harry had made a moment ago, but he asked the question anyway. "What club is that, pray tell?" "The club where Voldemort has ordered all his little minions to leave killing you to him and him alone. There aren't many members, but Albus did mention one time that he would make shirts or matching hats for all of us." "You are joking." "Nope. Though I hope it's the latter. I've seen some of the hats Dumbledore used to wear." (from Becoming Real chapter 10 by point-of-tears) Severus - Snape, sporting a rather luxuriant and long, black beard, burst through the kitchen door. Seeing that Remus had his two victims by their collars, he drew in his dignity and walked over to the twins mother. "Molly," he addressed the redheaded chef politely. She turned and smiled at the wizard. "Would you mind if I take your two sons and dissect them?" (from Back in Time: Revised July 2012 chapter 65 by etherian) "Mad-Eye" - (thoughts about the dangers of being a Death Eater) Voldemort could be the equivalent to a bipolar teenage girl menstruating, when it came to his Followers. (from Severus Snape and the Order of the Phoenix by Pozagee) Narrator - When the newspapers found out that the The Man Who Slayed You Know Who (and was subsequently tried for murder but, sh, we don't like to talk about that) and the Snake Who Slithered Free (with an order of Merlin First Class but really, hush-hush on that also) were not only together but married it was as if controversy itself was having kittens; great green, scaly kittens that pissed fire (or so Harry said). (from Two Pieces Standing Abut by Monster Tesk) Dr. Susan Calvin - "You'll have such proof as exists. You are the only one responsible for your own wants." (from Evidence by Isaac Asimov [not fanfiction first published in Astounding Science Fiction in 1945]) |
