I was deeply involved in the JEEVES AND WOOSTER fandom for nearly 4 and a half years! And it was one of the most traumatic, taxing, testing, trying, tedious terribly tormenting times ever. Aren't you impressed with my alliterations? There was also a time when I could have written a few pages on my experiences over there. I procrastinated. Now I haven't the motivation to recall the bitterness of a bleak past, that I've finally stashed away for good, after several failed attempts at redemption.

KYOU KARA MAOU wafted into my life a breath of fresh air, a healing zephyr, a balmy breeze. Of course I was very skeptical about the healing power of a drastically different different fandom. But this was a complete turnaround! The joy and exhiliration of tasting something so wonderfully new really overwhelmed me! That's putting it lightly.

Of course, I was prepared for hiccups and bumps. I never harboured any illusions about it being smooth sailing all the way. And this is where my profile gets very specific. But before we go any further, I'll state the obvious.

Wolfram von Bielefeld is undoubtedly my absolute, undisputed favourite, among the fabulous team of men. My other favourites include Gunter, Yozak and Murata, just for the record. Anyhow, I could babble and squeal and gush and rant about him for hours on end, which is quite a predictable reaction. I'll keep my rant on hold, but he has granted me a new lease of life.

Now the thing is, whatever I get deeply involved in, I take it to heart and pursue it with a passion. I'm extremely enthusiastic about things I like. That includes fandom.
And when it comes to things I dislike about a particular fandom, I'm vocal and vehement and vociferous (alliterations again!). Need proof? Read on :-

If there's something I get vehement about, I always have SOLID AND JUST reasons for it.
(a) It's RIDICULOUSLY out of character, and incongruous with the canon
(b) It has been seriously BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION, and exaggerated by mindless fans.
(c) There is a lamentably LOW number of fans protesting against the practice.

For example, I hate Wolfram bashing. But you'll rarely find me waving banners of objection, because there are enough fans to bash the Wolfram bashers, so I save my breath. Secondly, I hate Conyuu. But, though I hate to admit it, there is a mild possibility of the relationship, and it's not completely incongruous with the canon, so I don't protest against it. Thirdly, I hate the Conrad/Greta pairing (who comes up with these things?). But since there's very little of it, I don't even need to protest.

Have I successfully dispelled all notions you may have of me being biased and unjust and unreasonable? I hope so.

Let's go on to the phenomenon I've been screaming myself hoarse protesting against: THE FEMINISATION OF WOLFRAM. The most common tactic employed to completely SLAUGHTER Wolfram's charcter. Which fulfills all the criteria for making my blood boil and making me protest vociferously against it!

A. WOLFRAM'S PHYSICAL APPEARANCE (It Sooo Deserves A Separate Discussion)

THE RETARDED MYTH: Wolfram can TOTALLY pass off as a super feminine girl!!!

MYTH: Beauty is predominantly feminine.
HARDCORE FACT: Whoever said that deserves a severe and immediate reality check. The concept of masculine beauty is universally acknowledged and revered. To SAY THE LEAST!!!

MYTH: Wolfram's the only male who's called beautiful.
HARDCORE FACT: In the novels, Yuuri refers to almost EVERY SINGLE MALE Mazoku as beautiful. Especially Gunter, and even Gwendal. In his eyes, it's an entire race of extremely beautiful looking people. Does that mean it's an entire race of girly looking men? For heaven's sake, Gunter calls Yuuri lovely and beautiful!

MYTH: Wolfram looks feminine because he looks like his beautiful mother.
HARDCORE FACT: (a)He looks almost like Cheri, not exactly like her.
(b) Wolfram also greatly resembles his uncle Waltorana, in terms of hair and eye colour. And Waltorana doesn't exactly look girly.
(c) MILLIONS of men get their looks from their mothers, and that most certainly does NOT mean they look feminine! Similarly, women who greatly resemble their fathers don't end up looking masculine, do they?

MYTH: Wolfram looks girly because he looks like an angel.
HARDCORE FACT: (a) There's a BIG difference between boys who look 'angelic' and boys who look 'feminine'. Just like there's a difference between men with long hair (Gwendal) and women with long hair (Cecilie). Do they look similar?!?!
(b) It's the same as implying that ALL angels are female!!!

MYTH: Wolfram's only described as beautiful.
HARDCORE FACT: Adjectives used to describe Wolfram's looks in the novels: Beautiful, cute, angelic, handsome, dashing and overall "Prince Charming". But "Girly"??? NOWHERE to be found.

MYTH: Wolfram isn't manly looking enough to be called handsome.
HARDCORE FACT: Granted, Wolfram's undeniably one of the most beautiful bishounen I've ever seen. But anybody whoever DARES to say that he's too feminine looking to be called handsome deserves brain reconstruction surgery simply to correct his/her sense of visual aesthetics
(a) There are scenes in the anime, manga and novel illustrations when he looks so dashingly, DASHINGLY handsome, it's mesmerising and you'd be a fool to deny what your eyes tell you! You'd have to be FRIGGIN' BLIND to think he looks feminine!
(b) Wolfram has been called 'handsome' in the NOVELS themselves, a considerable number of times.

MYTH: Yuuri thinks Wolfram looks girly.
HARDCORE FACT: There's NO such evidence in the canon. For heaven's sake, Yuuri calls Wolfram handsome in the canon, and even expresses a degree of jealousy that he can't possibly look like Wolfram! Now why would Yuuri want to look like a girl if Wolfram supposedly looks like one?!

MYTH: Yuuri doesn't call any other guy girly.

HARDCORE FACT: Yuuri thinks the men who glomp him in the swimming pool are actually women. He at one point says that Gunter shrieks like a girl. And he nearly mistakes Sara for a girl. BUT... He NEVER says that Wolfram looks like a girl, or stereotypically behaves like one.

MYTH: Yuuri looks more handsome and manly than Wolfram, in terms of face and physique.
HARDCORE FACT: FRIGGIN' BULLSHIT!!! I mean, SERIOUSLY?!?! Hell freezes over the day Yuuri becomes more handsome. And incidentally, in the novels, Wolfram is described as Yuuri's TWIN in terms of height and stature. And just as a matter of common sense - who'd be manlier? Soldier boy or baseball boy?

MYTH: Gwendal and Conrad look much manlier than Wolfram.
HARDCORE FACT: I mean, SERIOUSLY?!?! Wolfram looks like a 17 year old, Conrad like a 27 year old, and Gwendal like a 37 year old. Personality is subjective, but physical appearances greatly change with age.
WHICH FRIGGING IDIOT COMPARES THE FACE AND PHYSIQUE OF A MINOR WITH THOSE OF MEN A DECADE OR 2 DECADES OLDER THAN HIM?!?!
It's true that in the novels Yuuri compares the 3 brothers, but it's purely with respect to their hair and eyes. And the kind of personalities they display on their faces.
Neither Conrad nor Gwendal looked uber manly when they looked like teenagers. NEITHER.
And MOST importantly, the three brothers are equally handsome, in DIFFERENT ways. Which can only be deciphered by roughly comparing present day Conrad with Shinou (image of future Wolfram) and with young Gwendal as we see him in the episode on Dan Hiri Weller.
Conrad is handsome in a warm and pleasant way. Gwendal is handsome in the tall, dark and intense way. Wolfram looks like a handsome prince from a fairy tale (description in the novels).

MOST IMPORTANT FACTS: (A) Wolfram is the spitting image of SHINOU. Who DARES to call Shinou girly looking?!
(B) Yuuri calls Wolfram an OTOKOMAE, a term that mean "handsome man" and is generally used for men with impressive personalities. It's NEVER used for men who are deemed to be feminine!
(C) If Wolfram looked feminine, I personally would never find him physically attractive. I'd appreciate everything else about him, but I'd never go starry eyed over his good looks. And for that matter, neither would all his fangirls who like handsome men!!!

NOTE: Very rarely do I come across men like Wolfram who can be accurately described as both beautiful & handsome. Men like Adalbert can only be described as handsome, because they don't have the aesthetic, refined features to be called beautiful. And men like Sararegi can only be called beautiful, because they don't look even remotely manly enough to be called handsome! It's sacrilege to Wolfram girly looking when a boy like Sara is in the vicinity!

The Famous (or Infamous) PINK NIGHTGOWN (According to the novels, it has no frills)

Okaaay. There was a time when I considered this to be feminine, but thankfully for Wolfram, I changed my mind. Firstly, Pink is a colour that's come to be considered feminine only in recent times. Wolfram lives in a Medieval age! Due you think he really cares about such shallow notions from an alien world, especially a world where homosexuality is frowned upon? Secondly, ALL MEN WORE NIGHTGOWNS until a few decades back! I'd be very surprised if Conrad and Gwendal wore 'pyjamas' instead of nightdresses. Got it?!

B. EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT WOLFRAM

I'm doing this next part in the form of a conversation between myself and the generic "Retarded Fangirl", which is appropriate, because not only is it fun, but everything I say is actually a reaction to what retarded fans say.

RETARDED FANGIRL: *squee* Wolfy's such a girl!

[B] During the Mateki arc, Conrad and Wolf are forced to masquerade as a couple, and Wolf promptly complains about having to "be the woman". What the HELL makes you think he'd enjoy being called "wife"? [C] Every single time Wolf is stuffed in a dress, whether for a drag queen pageant or as a disguise, his IRRITATION knows no bounds!!! Even Yuuri's more comfortable in dresses than he! [D] Have you ever heard Greta calling Wolfram "Mother" while she calls Yuuri "Father"? EVER?!

BOTTOMLINE: By putting Wolfram in a dress or labelling him the wife, you're actually torturing a character you claim to love. And you call yourself a FAN?! Wolfram cherishes his masculine identity.

And I know that Yuuri may be hesitant, but he's not shallow, and he WILL gradually accept Wolf for the handsome, amazing BOY that he is.

EVEN on Earth, where there are so many taboos surrounding homosexuality, it's acceptable for BOTH partners in a gay relationship to be "husbands". So wouldn't it only be LOGICAL that in a taboo free society like Shin Makoku there would be NO NEED To turn one partner into a wife?!?!

There are so many same sex couples in Shin Makoku, so by YOUR weird standards, EVERY couple should conform to heterosexual labels.
Suppose Conrad married Yozak, whom would you label the "wife"? Suppose Cecilie married Annisina, in a manner of speaking, whom would you label the "husband"? I can just picture you scratching your head and saying, "Why bother, they're both men/women". EXACTLY. So why this SUDDEN urge to forget that Wolfram is also a boy?!
And suppose, just suppose, Yuuri married someone other than Wolfram, like Conrad or Murata, WOULD you wrack your puny brains over whom to label "wife" and whom to label "husband"? Hell, Would you FRIGGING DARE to put Conrad or Murata in a WEDDING DRESS?! No, right?

So STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST WOLFRAM!!!!

You don't even REALISE you're implying that gay couples are abnormal, and therefore just to make things easier for YOU to digest, why not go and make them husband and wife? (b) My views on a character's physical appearance has NOTHING to do with my views on his personality. I'm not that kind of person.

(c) You NEVER protested even ONCE when MILLIONS OF RETARDED FANS feminised Wolfram in various ways, by saying that his looks and behaviour were girly, or CONSTANTLY stuffing him in women's clothing, and calling him feminine titles like Queen/wife/princess/girlfriend, etc. FOR FRIGGIN' AGES.

My Views on SEME/UKE Dynamics in Yaoi:

Considering how big a yaoi fan I am, it is only natural that I devote at least a small section to discussing my yaoi preferences. I'll just say this much: I RESENT THE DEGRADING THEORY THAT SEME = MAN & UKE - WOMAN!!!

And I RESENT AND DESPISE AND LOATHE the retarded idea that Wolfram should be the uke because he's basically just a girl!!!

And now on a more positive note, I do prefer Wolfram as an uke rather than a seme, but my REASONS ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. In fact, on a more generalised note, I prefer it if my favourite anime men are usually ukes, which I know is something that most yaoi fans wouldn't understand.

So I'll explain. My views on ukes are often radically different from what post fans stereotypically perceive them to be.

The Kind of Ukes I Prefer (I Don't Mean an All-In-One Combo):

(1) An uke who's drop dead gorgeous and dashingly handsome. Just as handsome as the seme if not more. This is a must for me, even if the following always aren't! Does Wolfram fit the bill? Absolutely! Regardless of who the seme might be...

(2) An uke who's just as manly as the seme, if not more. It's self explanatory. Does Wolfram fit the bill? Absolutely! Regardless of who the seme might be...

(3) An uke who takes charge. In other words, a power bottom. A man who's penetrated, but still is very active and dominant, and sometimes dominates his seme. Rides his seme to a screaming climax, most likely. Does Wolfram fit the bill ? Absolutely!

(4) An uke who's very seductive and deliberately tempting. He tantalises the seme, leaving him begging for more. Does Wolfram fit the bill ? Absolutely!

(5) An uke who's older and more sexually experienced than the seme. He decides to give his seme a treat. And on a more serious note, this is often a psychological requirement to bring about comfort and stability in sexual relations. Does Wolfram fit the bill ? Absolutely!

(6) An uke, who by nature is fiery and feisty and dynamic. It's self explanatory. Does Wolfram fit the bill? Absolutely!

So all in all, I love Wolfram as a MANLY UKE. It's true that both retarded Wolfram feminisers and I prefer Wolfram as an uke. But there's a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE in our reasons, and the kind of ukes we prefer.
And in my experience, the reasons make a FAR bigger difference than the bottomline.
On a more pleasant and generalised note, my conclusion to the brief yaoi bit.
Conclusion: I love ukes who cause their semes to have wet dreams and mind numbing orgasms, whether it's with their handsome looks, seductive moves or tight arses!

8. The most exiting moment of your life so far was when you discovered hentai manga.

11. You celebrate turning 18 not because you can watch R movies, but because you’re old enough to watch movies with explicit gay sex scenes.

12. It’s the only aphrodesiac you need.

13. When your boyfriend tells you he’s gay and has been dating another man, you immediately ask if you can join in. (I've never had a gay boyfriend... *sigh*)

14. Your gay son wishes he had a normal, homophobic mother who didn’t ask him questions about his latest sexual exploits. (I'm FAR from having children though! But I wouldn't mind a gay son at all!)

My Notes: Murata's voice is unusually sexy & mature, with a mysterious and ethereal quality. This song has a hint of latent passion and I'd otherwise recommend this song as a trance melody. He also sort of sounds like he's surrounded by shrine maidens while singing! I picked a video with an enjoyable montage of pictures.

2. Kenzya no Kyuuzitsu (Philosopher's Holiday)

My Notes: Murata's voice in this song is drastically different from the song above. It has an adorably boyish, carefree and mischievous quality. This song has a wonderfully upbeat rhythm, and is delightfully cheerful, optimistic and merry. I'd recommend this song as a chirpy mood lifter. The montage of pictures is similar to that above, as the videos have been uploaded by the same user.

3. Onazi Kaze ni Hukarete (Just Like the Wind)

My Notes: Murata's voice is a mixture of boyish and mature in this song. The mood of the song is one of relaxed reflection, contented musing, easy going yet profound. I'd recommend this song for a country vagabond philosopher (in case you ever decide to become one). This song is clearly a blend of the previous two, in terms of mood and voice quality.

My Notes: Gunter's voice captures a range of subtle passions. This song is the anime equivalent of a classic royal medieval ballad blended with the contemporary style of cabaret. It has a strangely beautiful blend of archaic musical romanticism and a streak of cabaret. I'd recommend this song for a nostalgic trip into the magically medieval world of court musicians, ballads and a fleeting escape to an entertaining cabaret lounge. Also, a very enjoyable and diverse montage of pictures to complement the song.

My Notes: Gunter's voice appears to carry the fluid sincerity of an intellectual. This song can be arguably described as a very cool blend of blues and vintage pop, and the essence is one that conveys the same. I'd recommend this song in a number of people and situations, but it would mostly suit those with a stylish and introspective attitude.

My Notes: Gunter's voice is delightfully peppy, savvy and confident. This song oozes the typical glitz, glamour and sparkling vivacity of a merry 70's style West End musical performance! I'd recommend this song as a popular dance number at a big celebration party.

Approximately 80% of fans who've heard Wolfram's Japanese voice without at first knowing it was female, would agree with me. I've received the samereaction from many acquaintances of mine who haven't watched the anime. I wish I could give you the links to all the several 100 webpages where fans have expressed their utter astonishment upon discovering Wolfram was voiced by a she...
This song is vigorous, fiery and feisty, full of energy and attitude! Honestly, it seems easy and yet so difficult to pinpoint exactly for which ocassions I'd recommend this song.

My Notes: This song is a duet between Wolfram and his elder brother Conrad, and not exclusively a Wolfram song. Stylish, manly, passionate and hard hitting - no other way to describe this classic.
A final testament to Mitsuki Saiga's genius? I played this song for a number of my friends who know perfectly well who Wolfram and Conrad are - younger brother and elder brother. And all of them were confused as to which voice belonged to which character, and all were convinced that both seiyuus were male...

Here is an excerpt from the interview, in which she talks about the seiyuus:

"I left the casting up to the professionals, but I'm very happy with the choices they made. The characters even sound handsome! As a matter of fact, the voice work has inspired me on a number of occassions, convincing me to make Wolfram more manly, Yuri more passionate, Gwendal more obessed with cute things and Anissina and Gunter just more messed up in general."

I wouldn't know where to begin and where to end while having a general broad discussion on Wolfram's personality... The guy is a layered spectrum of different hues, some more dominant and others more subtle...
