Sora and Tie were still on their honeymoon when it first happened. Spots all around the world blacked out. TK and Matt were in Chicago for a family member’s funeral. The entire downtown district flashed with one last surge of light, and then POW, everything electrical stopped working. Streetlights, traffic lights, computers, TV's, radio’s, everything; it stopped. The W hotel had no back up generators, in fact the only places that did have back up generators were the hospitals and large businesses. A feeling clung to Matt and never left his gut. He knew something was wrong. They called it an electrical storm, but nobody knew what it really was. "We have to get out of here and back to Osaka right now TK." Matt said intensely. "What? Why for?" TK replied with confusion. "Something’s happening. I know when the lights go out in the entire city that it's not just an electrical storm." Matt sounded assured. "Do you think it has to do with the Digital World?" TK asked obviously. "It's the only other thing TK. We have to contact Izzi and find a way home." Matt’s voice grew more paranoid. "But we leave on Saturday, it's only two days away Matt, can't we wait?" TK tried to find reason. "TK! Your not understanding me, we have to get home. This can't wait, you know it can't with something of this magnitude." Matt grew frustrated, making his face hot red. "Okay." TK replied simple and understanding. Matt and TK left their hotel room. The hall was dark except for a window down a long stretch. People were crowded in the lobby, as Matt knew they would. It was going to be difficult to maneuver around the city since the black out. Everybody was in a frenzy. Matt called everyone possible on his cell phone, no one had service. The entire world seemed to stand still. Something was about to happen, something went wrong, something-- Matt knew it. TK followed Matt through the masses of people walking the streets and crowding the sidewalk. "Stick close TK. People crazy when the power goes out." Matt said looking back at TK. "I know Matt, you don't have to worry, I'm 18 now ya know." TK tried to remind Matt that he was no longer a child. "I know." Matt replied softly. People were yelling, childern were crying; TK hated it when Matt was right about these things. |
