Status

I've officially stopped writing here on fanfiction.net due to time constraints forced upon me by my new job. However I've recently written and commissioned an Azula-webcomic called the Inferno King. The First Lightningbender: My first serious fic. The basic plot goes Aang takes away Azula's firebending but Azula still has her lightning which she develops into a proper bending art with the help of a Tigerhawk inspired from Beast Wars. It's actually a mistake of fans to call firebending Lightning lightningbending. Never in the series or by the creators is it called lightningbending only Lightning, it isn't even really 'bending' at all rather it feels more like something they can 'also' do like airbenders and waterbenders can bend clouds or waterbenders and earthbenders can bend mud and slurry. Granted in Buddhist philosophy which Avatar mostly follows Fire is represented by Flame, Lightning and the Sun or light hence why the firebenders could shoot lightning instead of European or East Asian philosophy which believes lightning is Air (Greek), Water (Chinese) or separate. Also in Buddhist philosophy the elements have the same colors as the Four Nations which is where the series picked those colors plus it also includes Spirit which is where energybending came from. In this fic I'm exploring in great depth the idea that lightning is a fifth element (don't bother pointing out Naruto's elements).

Mostly it's just to develop Azula's powers into something new because quite frankly she's the one character that got short-sticked on the power development section and also because originally my prototype fic didn't have her losing blue fire merely developing her Lightning to the point where she could bend it proper at which point fire started to look extremely useless next to it.

Also of importance is that this is not an Azula redemption fic in the conventional sense. There will be no personality rewrites, well or poorly developed Azula OOCs or tsundereness and happy fluffiness and relatively little drama but plenty of suspense and psychological horror. Azula will stay crazy and evil and in fact become more crazy and evil just more refined and mature. Ultimately she'll become a heroic sociopath magnificent bastard that the heroes will just need to work with. Think ala Hannibal Lecter Clarice Starling. To me her break-down should have made her worst no better, like Hannibal Rising Hannibal before Silence of Lambs Hannibal.

Oneshots

Ironic Torture: My first Atla fic involving Azula and Iroh. I got the idea from watching the Simpson's Halloween episode where Homer sells his soul for a daughter to Flanders. Thinking of turning it into a series.

Nothing to do but wait: I'm a Zutarian who believes that all Zutara fics should be something like this.

Tentacle What!: As the title suggests, parody naughtiness for something that's been bugging me in Atla for a while.

Zeus: A poem comparing Azula to the Greek God Zeus. For some strange reason no one dropped any reviews which either means it was really bad or really good.

Future Planned

My Brother's Keeper: My muse needs more fuel to work out some outstanding bits but basically this is an idea that's been going through my head lately. A lot of writers have been doing a lot of AU fics where Azula takes Zuko's place but surprisingly no one has written a fic where Azula (master, prodigy, military genius, psychologist and wise woman extraordinaire) takes Iroh's place as Zuko's keeper. It makes more sense to me that she'd fit that role considering Zuko does to some extent look up to her (despite her being the younger sister) as something of a role model. Heck he even followed her over Iroh canonically. The basic premise of this planned future fic is that in AU Iroh and Lu Ten dies at Ba Sing Se, Ozai's succession goes more smoothly but Azulon still demands that Zuko die to teach Ozai humility still causing Ursa to leave but without Iroh to look after him Zuko nearly goes crazy alone and turns to Azula who has since stepped up and exceeded her Uncle early in her military career. The act triggers her maternal side and she starts caring for her brother helping ease some of her own pain.

Trivia: Did you that in Chinese Mythology the Tiger is equal in power to the Dragon, it's also represented by Autumn (like airbenders) and Wind. It also represents the warrior over the politician which is represented by the Chinese dragon. On another note of interest is Ozai as the Phoenix and Azula as the Dragon. In China the Phoenix is a female icon meant to represent the wife of the emperor represented by the dragon. In this regard Mike and Bryan seem to have accidentally reversed the gender roles of Azula and Ozai lol.

Also of note is the Blue Dragon of the East to which Azulon and by extension Azula are named after which is a water elemental creature with power over the sky and storms. In Chinese mythology Lightning from Storms is derived from elemental water. Interesting huh?
