I really wanted more about John being stuck in the well, at the end of TFP The Final Problem, but I haven't found that many fics, so I wrote one myself! A John-centric, slight John-whump fic taking place while he's stuck in the well, and a bit after he gets out.

In "The Lying Detective" Sherlock told Faith Smith (well, Eurus really) "You're suicidal, you're allowed chips. Trust me, it's the only perk." What if Sherlock actually attempted suicide, and was caught by John and Mycroft in the act? I tried to keep them in character as best I could. But on the night that John is about to end it all, he is stopped by the last person he expected to see- Sherlock Holmes, returned from the dead. When John wakes, lying in his bed, listening to his own rapid heartbeat and his strained breathing, he suddenly wonders if it all has only been a dream. A dream. The best dream of all. Before Sherlock died, John didn't need his cane, as he explains to the Sherlock whom he thinks is just a figment of his imagination. That is, until Mrs. Hudson confirms that Sherlock is really there. A one-shot. Frustratingly close to slash, but not quite, kind of like the show. Hopefully in-character.

Human emotions are tiring, troublesome things. And Sherlock wants to be known as anything but that. No matter how hard you try though, you're only human. And it's been a long year.
