After the Mario Brothers bring Princess Peach home safely from her latest kidnapping, it becomes clear that not all is well. Convinced that they're all hiding something, Toadsworth, the princess's guardian, is determined to find out what happened. But as he discovers, some stones are best left unturned. Set after the events of Super Paper Mario.

First of the CBTS series. Bowser and Koopalings decide, once again, to kidnap Peach during a picnic the Mario Gang are having to celebrate a holiday. However, a chemical Ludwig uses to knock out the Mario Gang turns into a starting point of a much bigger adventure. In this story, the Mario Brothers and the Koopas must work together to save their planet from a shadow being.

After a foiled plot to kidnap Peach, the Koopalings are stuck in a mysterious forest. Not only are they stuck in unfamiliar territory, but the Koopalings seem to be against each other. Learning his kids have disappeared, Bowser and Kamek find that forest and try to save them. Will the Koopalings get out the forest safe and sound, or will an action they do be the end of them?

After a bit of pondering on why the Koopalings are always losing, Bowser finally notices one reason of the Koopalings' failures: their inability to work as a team. To fix this, the King commands each Koopaling to work with their most hated sibling. Their task: to complete a list of requirements, but to complete them, the Koopalings will have to go through a process: Compromise.
