Recently watched Avatar and I'm trying to create an AU story for it. I'm terrible at plotlines, so if you could PM me with any ideas you have, that would be excellent.

My thoughts are that something happens after the end of the movie and we rediscover Pandora after several hundred years of strife on Earth. A story that only vaguely resembles the second half of Steven Speilberg's Artificial Intelligence in that Earth has suffered a crisis. While in AI the planet suffered another ice age, we suffer from... a war maybe? or an epidemic of catastrophic proportions? Either way, we forget about Pandora and rediscover it from an old RDA database, and decide to see if there are any humans remaining on it to supplement our extremely dwindled population. When we get there, we find that not only the humans are gone from it, everything else is too, the planet is a complete wasteland, a blackened husk of its former glory.

We leave a satellite there to inform us if anything happens and to study the planet, not having enough people to spare to leave a temporary space station orbiting it. We forget about it again. Then we receive a signal from the satellite informing us of a slight change in the core of the planet, its heating up. Now, granted, this is just a LITTLE odd, seeing as Pandora is a cold dead hunk of rock, floating around Polyphemus. So we send a ship to check it out, and it turns out, the planet wasn't as dead as we thought, there are bacteria still living on the planet. We take some samples and it turns out theres a message written into the genetic code of the bacteria(really hard to do), there was a disaster on Pandora as well. So they left, the Na'vi and the humans pretty much packed their bags and left... before the catastrophe really got bad. thats pretty much all i got... any ideas?
