Following on from the game, the duo return to Tommy's to find ruin and death. Forced into the wild again, their trust in each other is tried by the desperate forces who call the waste land home.

In the years following the outbreak of the cordyceps epidemic, Joel and Tommy's struggle for survival triggers the slow deterioration of their relationship. Follow them through the years as they flee their hometown, drift through quarantine zones, learn brutality and survival on the open road, and eventually find themselves in a city called Boston.
