Author has written 53 stories for Power Rangers, Andromeda, Stargate: Atlantis, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, Bones, and Robin Hood BBC. My name is Magpie, and I'm an obsessive sci-fi geek.My philosophy as a fanfiction writer: First objective? Be true to the characters. That is what I always attempt to do, to describe relationships and characters as truly as possible. I consider it a challenge, especially when it comes to balancing this objective against my need to 'Ship. When it comes to the whole 'shipping thing, I'm very liberal. The characters I 'Ship are just the ones I find most interesting and enjoy writing/reading about the most; I don't necissarily care if they actually get together on the show or not. For instance, my current obsession is Stargate: Atlantis, and anyone who's read my stories knows that I'm pretty much a total John/Teyla, Elizabeth/Rodney fan, however, I don't think the writers have any intention of getting Elizabeth and Rodney together on the show, and, though there are certianly hints that they'll shunt John and Teyla in that direction, it isn't coming on very fast and John spends at least a much time flirting with Elizabeth as he does with Teyla. And you know what? That's fine. The writers can do what they want with the characters, it's their show! So long as they are skillful, entertaining and true to the characters we have grown to know and love over the past couple of years (which they so far have) I'm cool with it. I have absolutely no patience for militant 'shippers who refuse to talk to people who support an opposing relationship to the one they like, bash characters who they feal 'threaten' their pairing (I can't stand the attitude of some Teyla/John 'shippers to Elizabeth) or stop watching a show because it doesn't get a certain pairing together. That sort of attitude is pathetic and pointless and those people need to get a life. (That sort of attiude also doesn't lend itself to productive fanfiction writing. To write fanfic well, you have to approach the characters without bias, 'shipper or otherwise.) I love to write, and I love to write well. The very earliest of my stories I only leave up as an example of how not to do. Please don't write anything as gooey as my very first Andromeda fic! In the mean time, enjoy! |
