When Sherlock receives a text of his brother telling him that John has been in a car accident he decides to finally "come back to life." When it is revealed that John has memory loss as a consequence of the accident the consulting detective decides to hide the dark truth of their past in order to have a fresh start with his friend.

It cannot get any worse, John has assumed originally. Lost their suspect, got lost themselves, nothing but cold and snow and trees surrounding them. Well, he is wrong. A so far unpleasant situation suddenly turns into a possibly life-threatening one, and soon John finds himself, together with Lestrade, facing a race against the clock to save his best friend's life. John's hand in his was warm, and seemed to be all that is real in the universe. Sherlock didn't even know how much. - One-shot. Angst.

John has not expected to see Sherlock again. 10 months after his friend's supposed death however, he's called upon by Mycroft because his skills and his person are needed. Consequently, he has to deal with a very ill consulting detective, his not so uncaring brother, Mrs Hudson, some glimpses into the Holmes boys' childhood, a butler, his own feelings and their changing rel.-ship.

Post-Reichenback. Sherlock's work is nearly finished but both he and John have changed dramatically during the years apart. When John receives a phone call in the middle of the night, he knows that something has happened to Sherlock, something qualifying as 'not good'. He is, however, not prepared for what has led to his friend's injury and hospitalisation. And he certainly isn't prepared to face the question if Sherlock will ever recover properly from what has happened.

Thanks to Sherlock's inability to resist satisfying his curiosity, he's been turned into a small child of about seven (or five, depending on who you're asking) years old. John finds Sherlock three years after he thought he'd buried him, scared and injured; broken to such an extent he can barely recognise those trying to help him. Battling against too many unanswered questions and his own feelings, John sets out to put him back together, but never stops to consider Sherlock's return may be part of a greater punishment in store for the both of them.

John sighed. "You were right." "What? Right about what?" Sherlock frowned. The doctor ran a hand through his hair tiredly. "She didn't come." he mumbled. "Who didn't?"
