Soul was having dreams of a girl he doesn't know but feels he has a connection with. He thought they were only dreams until the day he sees her in his school. Maka is a new student at Death City. She is a shy girl and has trouble making friends. But she sees an albino haired boy with red eyes staring at her. Maka knows nothing about the dreams, but Soul does and he recognizes her.

"You do not know of what you ask," he whispered into her neck, his hand trailing down her spine. "I will do all I can to protect you, but I cannot give you what you seek. It wouldn't be fair to you. Please don't ask me again, Maka, I won't take away your freedom."
