![]() Author has written 13 stories for Lord of the Rings. I have been a confessing Tolkien addict for the last fourty years, but it is only one year now that I discovered the existence of the PC, internet and fanfiction! What a world to explore!;-) Being no native speaker, I at first shrank from writing anything myself, as I am sure that I am not able to really express myself in a foreign language the same way I would in my mothertongue, but seeing the way many of the native speakers treat something as defenceless as the English language I was convinced I could not do worse.;-))Taking a plunge into muddy waters now, I just hope to escape the watcher, and make it through the long night of ff.net. The picture shows my dog Ebba, a Newfoundlander, who weighs nearly as much as me, but is a much nicer bitch than me!:-DDD I'm fond of realism, plausible action, believable characters, convincing dialogues and all these mean things that demand a lot of work and accurateness on behalf of the author. Perhaps I was a member of the Spanish Inquisition in one of my former lives, who knows? Though my husband claims I must have been a reindeer, as I drag him across Hardanger Vidda as often as I can.:-) I am a canon stickler and hate Mary Sues and cheap and cheesy Legolas fics, pathetic romances and mp, hurt/comfort stuff and people who mess up Middle-Earth's geography! But I do like anything well written, be it whatever genre, age or character, though I am absolutely doting on Rohan and anything Rohirric. ( What else can be expected from an old farmer's wife, coming from a country that has a rearing stallion in her flag?) As I don't want to have to write a disclaimer for every drabble I might be posting, I do it here, once and for all: Hey, ye blokes at Tolkien Fund etc., I admit not to own Middle-Earth, anybody or anything living there, I promise to respect the Professor and his marvellous work, even if I tend to write parodies, I just borrow all these wonderful things to use them in this playground of my weird phantasy. oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Summer 2011:I finally managed to publish the first chapter of a multipart story, thanks to the encouragement and patience of Lialathuveril, who challenged me to get going (or rather writing;-)) and Ygrain, who propped up my ego, every time I was about to give up, and who I both would like to thank very much. I know, there are already enough of Éomer/Lothíriel stories on the net, but anyway: Here is my version, and I hope it adds some new flavour to a well-known and well-liked dish.;-) Being the realism-freak I am, I tried to show the characters as realistic as I thought necessary. So folks: A conversation between warriors is no coffee party of the local church choir. If you feel offended by drastic language, please refrain from reading. I mainly focussed on the cultural differences between Gondor and Rohan, and tried to show how those two in the end manage to overcome them, relying on cultural studies of different nomadic and half-nomadic tribes, written records about life in the Viking settlement of Haithabu and last but not least my favourite, the "Edda". |
