(former penname: Kajou) I changed my name to Mama Geisha. Before you question it, I am not a geisha. It is a name my friends call me (for whatever reason, I have no idea) and it just stuck. Good news, I'm starting to write a story! Yes, I know it is a shock, even to me. I really don't know what to say; I kept having this dream, and I thought it would be a good story. Keep in mind that it would be a oneshot though. I can't handle coming up a story that would be 5-10 chapters long. The oneshot I'm coming up with is yoai (man on man loving XD). For me, it is funny to write, even though the story is just smut (hehe), but don't hold your breath, I'm just writing the story. I'm not sure if I will finish it or even post it on FF.net...So anyways, I basically, I made an account so I could put reviews up. I can be a very critical person, but dont worry...I only write reviews for the fics that I really like and I never write any negative comments (but that doesnt mean I dont think them). Right now, I've only been in the anime section, reading only inuyasha fics (especially sess/kag) but I'm starting to read other stuff (like Legal Drug, Ouran High School Host Club, and Inuyasha, but yaoi). I am really impatient and the thing that really urks me is authors who dont update on a regular basis. Dont get me wrong, I understand that there is school, vacations, family drama, and other shit, but if you're going to put a story up in the first place, at least write the whole story first, then post it. I just hate waiting for a story that I really get in to, then it ends at a cilff hanger(which I really dont mind) but the author doesnt update for about 2-3 weeks. That just get on my last nerves. So my advice to ya'll authors...finish your damn story then post it so I can read the whole story w/o waiting. If you can't do that, at least update weekly or every other day. luv & peace TIPS FOR WRITING FANFICTION Note: these tips are not just from me they are also from other writers on FF.net 1. If you are writing a new story, post at least 2 chapters. If you only post 1 chapter and the chapter is not interesting (a.k.a sucks or just the prologue), no one is going to take a second look at your story. The 2nd chapter is critical in keeping your readers coming back for more. 2. If it's your first time writing a fanfic and you say, "This is my first time writing a fanfic, so no flames please," you obviously don't want to be a good writer. If you want to improve your stories, you have to takes all types of criticism, good and bad. Life is not all sugar and cream, you are going to face the harsh reality that you migh actually suck, and if anyone tells you otherwise, they're lying to you. Remember this does not apply to flames that dislike your story because you did a certain pairing or category. In that case, the people who write those flames are losers who have no life. It should be constructive criticism 3. Don't update 3 months later. People will forget your story by then and it's annoying to re-read all the chapters to remember what's going on. Personally 2 weeks is the limit for me. 4. Spelling and grammar is important! In order to post your story, you have to use a certain writing program. For most people who use Microsoft Word, if there is red and/or green marks on your screen, that should be a big hint. I can understand if there is a red line under a name that is not in the English language, but also make sure the name is spelled correctly. If you won't listen to Microsoft, get a beta reader. 5. If you are going to put Japanses or any other foreign language in a fanfic, don't put full sentenes or even words most people don't recognize. If you want to use so many foreign words, write the whole story in that foreign language. At least use simple short words that people can recognize from the series, show, etc. In addition, it's really annoying to have so many Japanese words in one story, and then having the definitions at the end of the chapter. Please don't do this. Would you want to see a word you don't know, go all the way to the bottom of the chapter to check the definition? I didn't think so. 6. Reviwers: If a story is completed, don't write a review for every single chapter. Wait until the end of the story to review, then you can write all your thoughts at one time. You have to remember that every time you write a review, the writer gets an email. Writers who have 25 chapters, who get 25 emails from the same person all at once, it's frustrating. 7. It's really irritating when a writer writes a story, gets to a big cliffhanger, then says, "Sorry, but I have no idea where this story is headed." If you had no idea where to go with your story, why did you write it in the first place? Before you write a story, plan it out, or even write the whole story first. How can you leave your readers hanging like that! If you have any more tips, contact me |
