Writing tip for anyone who wants it

When you are describing something in a story don't dedicate several paragraphs to tell all the little details of lets say your describing a horse. When you do so you make readers who don't understand say what a fetlock is then they get the feeling that you the author have seen a picture you really like and are putting it in here because its really cool. Doing this is fine, except when you give every detail like I said above, I'm not saying that describing something is bad but keep an eye on how much you put in the story right there. You can still put in those details but spread it out throughout the page or a few pages depending on how much info there is and if its a hole lot spread it out throughout the chapter or two chapters. I feel when I see someone doing this is that suddenly the story isn't about what it was a line before its suddenly all about the 'horse'.

by the way a fetlock, in short, is the curving part of the leg just above the hoof. some people might know the hoof as the foot. I'm not trying to make anyone feel dumb here, put a motorcycle in front of me and I bearly know front from back, but here is a little more useless information to cram in to your brain that will gather dust.
