"Artist use lies to tell the truth while politicians use lies to cover the truth up" ~V for vendetta~ "Easy reading is damn hard writing," ~Nathaniel Hawthorne~ "Life is only truly known to those who suffer loss, endure adversity and stumble from defeat to defeat." ~Anais Nin "I'm the writer, you're the audience, I outrank you!" ~ The Producers "It is the nature of the artist to mind excessively what is said about him. Literature is strewn with the wreckage of them who have minded beyond reason the opinions of others." ~ Virgina Woolf Hello, and welcome to my corner of Fanfiction. If you're reading this there is numerous possibilities as to why, but the two most common is, you are either interested in my writing or you are bored out of your mind. Whatever the case may be, welcome, and I hope that if you continue reading this, you find it entertaining, interesting or in some way amusing. Just a smigin about me. I was born and raised in a little place called Texas. Why I'm still here is beyond me but I'll just blame it on college and be done with it. As indicated by my previous statement I'm a college student and If you were wondering, I'm studying History and Classical languages and literature with the hope of one day being a Professor. So, being a college student, while I may have lots of time I have very little of it. Those of you who are wondering about when I'm going to update my unfinished fics...well sorry it happens when it happens you can't rush the muse. Now, when I'm not writing or being a student I do have a bit of a life. When I'm not busy I like to read, write, swim, water ski, sail, fence (with a foil or epee), down Starbucks Frappachinos, and hang out with friends. Some Of My Favorites Include: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Mummy, X-Men, The Three Musketeers, The Handmaid's Tale, The Lord Of The Flies, The Scarlett Letter, Hamlet, The Earth My Butt And Other Big Round Things, Van Helsing, Doom, The Price of Milk, Everything Is Illuminated, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Princess Bride, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Other Boleyn Girl, V For Vendetta and basically anything history related. Now, onto the writing portion of this whole deal. I love to write, its one of my many passions, and I am always trying to improve my craft. I think its important to continue to grow and learn as a writer and artist, so in that same spirit, i'm going to hesitantly say this. If you feel that there is something blaring with my works that needs to be brought to my attention, please send me a PM, constructive criticism is always welcome and I'm willing to learn from your suggestions. No, crawling into a hole and dying is not a suggestion I'm willing to follow ;). But Seriously constructive criticism is always welcome. I would like to address an issue I've noticed on this site. The lack of maturity by writers after their story has been flamed is absolutely appalling. Okay, it sucks to be flamed I know, but honestly there probably was an issue that needed to be addressed, and in their colorful fashion the flamer responded as they saw fit. I'm sure anyone who reads this and disagrees will be vocal on the matter, but my reason for even bringing this up is that we as a writing community need to know how to take criticism. We have gotten used to just sitting back and soaking up the praise given to us by reviewers, and while that is great that is not the purpose of this site (well at least not for me). Any writer worth their salt will be willing if not eager to hear how the can improve, and those who cannot take criticism at any level do not deserve to be called writers, artists, or authors. It is our responsibility to make sure that we give our audience the best possible stories we can write, and if someone does not believe that we are doing exactly that have the right to vocalize their dissatisfied opinions. Now it is natural to be offended, hurt, or otherwise upset. We have poured our souls into what we've written and now some jerk has come along and ripped it apart and essentially told us to crawl into a hole and die. It is natural to want to respond with heated, hurt words but honestly what good is that going to do other than make you look like a crybaby. Please, I beseech all of you to take the high road and before responding to any critical review, be it a flame or not, step back and look at what they're saying. Try and find whatever grace you have within yourselves to take their words with a grain of salt and move on. Otherwise, if you respond with swearing, name calling and other stupid defense mechanisms it will only give them more ammunition to work with, and more material to add to their wall of shame (seriously ever been flamed? Go check out their profile, you'll know what I'm talking about). For those of you who have never been flamed before I hope that you never have to experience that, but if and when it does happen please remember my words. I know that by even talking about this I run the risk of attracting unwanted attention from flame reviewers and from others who disagree with what I'm saying, however I believe a lot can be learned from those who give us the harshest criticism. So I'm going to step down off of my soap box and hope that others heed my words and attempt to learn from others mistakes. So anyone still with me? Okay cool well this is really all I have, if you have questions, comments, or just want to chat it up, feel free to PM me, and I'll try to respond in a timely manner. Cheers and Best Regards Space-Case-Writer13 |
