![]() 02-19-2010 I apologize to everyone who has read, enjoyed and/or kindly reviewed my sole story "Adultery", it will no longer be here on ff . net. I've been writing fanfiction under a different penname since 2004, and as Antarctica since 2007 and it has brought me great fulfillment. It has been six years of improvement of me as a writer. I've learned a lot, not only about the English language and storytelling, but also about myself: about my own desire and determination to take my writing to the next level and become more than a fanfiction author. Recently my grandmother had one of her books published and her experiences have made me aware of the limitations of fanfiction and the possibilities of original fiction. When I started six years ago, I already knew I wanted to publish a book someday, but fanfiction was for fun and for the learning experience. Not to be taken seriously, because here isn't the place to be taken seriously. Now I feel like I have outgrown ff . net and my work is becoming too serious for here. I've been giving it my best. But I believe my best can be better if it were allowed to grow above the glass ceiling of fanfiction and I could explore my capabilities of creating my own characters and keeping people interested without relying on the association with Gundam Wing. This is not me saying I've become too good for fanfiction, because I believe no one is. Writing fanfiction takes skill and every author can be proud of themselves. But at the same time, as an author of fanfiction, you have no rights, actually you infringe on the rights of the original artist. They just allow us to, because it is beneficial for the popularity of their work. I guess I just don't want to settle for writing free advertisement, even though some authors have elevated this "free advertisement" to art. I want more and maybe - probably - I won't succeed, but at least I will have given it an honest effort. I hope everyone understands and that no one is disapointed with me, let down by me, or angry with me. Again: sincere apologies and humble gratitude to all readers and reviewers of "Adultery". |
