After months of no response, he returns after he hears a prayer from Sam illustrating the extent of Dean's injuries suffered after a car accident. Set after the ending of 8x21. Castiel's vessel is tearing apart, so he ends up taking over Dean's body until he can fix it. This ends up changing their relationship, after Castiel sees all the feelings Dean has for him.

(Destiel) Castiel sustained a fatal injury and leaves Dean with a permident reminder of his angel.

Dean feels betrayed. Castiel feels similarly. A freak accident ends the two of them alone in Limbo for an unknown amount of time. With nothing else to entertain except each other, they're going to have to work this out somehow. Set at the end of 6x21 'Let It Bleed' before Castiel finds Dr Visyak.

When a fast talking witch hexes Dean to get rid of all his scars, he's surprised to find that includes the handprint, too. It's not until Castiel shows up that he realizes just how much trouble they're actually in. Handprint fic with bonus sick!Cas.
