Updates

It will be no secret to anyone that has ever read anything I've written that I am terrible at updating regularly. I can only ask that you bear with me and I promise I will update as soon as I can. I will always try to explain my absence in the author's note. If I plan to leave a story for a certain amount of time, I will post that in the author's note also. I will never abandon stories without explaining why first.

Stories

Following are details about each story I've written, along with links to Fan Casts and Alternate History summaries where applicable. Further Alternate History details will be added as I think of them and/or post stories to which they are relevant. Any details or notes which later become irrelevant due to original author/creator clarification will be made prominent with a strikethrough (Example: Summer is a season).

Finding Sky

All canon soulfinder pairings remain the same in all stories (Karla & Saul, Zed & Sky, Yves & Phee etc.). As Finding Sky was published in 2010 I am taking this as the canon start for the series. I am using this date and brief details from the book to work out the rough ages and birthdays for each of the characters in order to be as realistic as possible. Should the ages/birthdays need to change for the sake of a story, I will always clarify the specific ages/birthdays of each character in the opening chapter Author's Note. Below is a list of ages/birthdays for each key characters.
  1. Karla Benedict - Born: 19th September 1964 - Aged 46 in 2010.
  2. Saul Benedict - Born 15th September 1964 - Aged 46 in 2010.
  3. Trace Benedict - Born 20th December 1982 - Aged 28 in 2010.
  4. Uriel Benedict - Born 7th April 1984 - Aged 26 in 2010.
  5. Victor Benedict - Born 29th January 1986 - Aged 24 in 2010.
  6. Will Benedict - Born 30th November 1988 - Aged 22 in 2010.
  7. Xav Benedict - Born 1st March 1991 - Aged 18 in 2010.
  8. Yves Benedict - Born 1st July 1992 - Aged 17 in 2010.
  9. Zed Benedict - Born 5th August 1993 - Aged 16 in 2010.
  1. Diamond Brooke - Born 24th December 1982 - Aged 29 in 2011 (Seeking Crystal).
  2. Tarryn Coetzee - Born 12th April 1984 - Aged 28 in 2012 (Misty Falls).

  6. Phoenix Corrigan - Born 4th July 1992 - Aged 18 in 2011 (Stealing Phoenix).
  7. Sky Bright - Born 3rd March/ 7th August 1993 - Aged 16 in 2010.
KARLA - As there is relatively little material regarding Karla in the books, I have had to embellish a little in order to fill out the story a little more. It is stated in the books that Karla is fiery, bubbly, kind-hearted, loyal and protective of her family - I've capitalised on her more fiery side and made her sarcastic, witty and - on occasion - obnoxious. I've also made her marriage to Saul very passionate, very much head-over-heels in love and very touchy-feely (as awkward as it is their sex life must have been pretty good to have had seven children). I don't think, considering that they're soulfinders, that that kind of passion would have faded over time and I think they would take every opportunity to show off their love for each other. I also think Karla has a darker side that makes her more angry like Zed and Victor - after all she did lose her best friend Annie to cancer around the age of 18-24 (see Summer Shadows) and she also almost lost Saul after an argument which must have been bad because they never told their children about it (again Summer Shadows). A further point I just need to make is that thanks to her gifts, Karla has spent her entire life knowing exactly what people are thinking and what they've done in their past - I would imagine this would make someone incredibly suspicious, less trustful and I think it's made Karla live in a bubble she has made purely for herself and she struggles with having to live outside of it. I've made her slightly less enamoured with small town life - she's a newcomer and small towns are stereotyped as being more judgemental towards newcomers (see Mrs Hoffman in Finding Sky). I have also made it so that Karla's gifts work slightly differently to Zed's. I think I saw somewhere on Joss Stirling's website that Karla wasn't able to do Telekinesis so that is that out of the way. I've made Karla able to hear thoughts as long as someone doesn't have their shields up, she can see the future but only after a decision has been made (for example, if Yves was planning to go to Harvard Uni this would be the future that Karla would see, if Yves then changed his mind and decided to go to a college in Texas, Karla's visions would change) and she can see someone's past. This part doesn't have any restrictions for non-Savants, for Savants it would be like when Uriel sees Sky's past and they have to open doors. I've made Karla's gifts difficult to handle - if she pushes them too much, she gets headaches, her nose bleeds etc, etc - after all she is a Seventh Child and that makes her extra powerful. I've also made her shields so weak they have to be reinforced by Saul's purely to explain her lack of control in Finding Sky and Stealing Phoenix. One last thing (and this is covered more in a bullet point about the Savant Net) I've made Saul and the boys work fully for the Savant Net. Karla, on the other hand, works on a part time basis if you will - she interviews people wanting to join to check they're joining for the right reasons, she assists in cases on request from Saul and she attends meetings etc. This is for two reasons - firstly, Saul is more than likely to be very protective of Karla as she's his soulfinder - he wouldn't want her going on missions, fighting the bad guys because a) he doesn't want to get hurt or worse and b) her gifts are purely mental - none of her gifts are defensive - plus her shields suck so she would be down in seconds - she would be a huge risk and Saul would be focused on protecting her and not on the task in hand. Secondly, Karla can see the future - everyone knows how useful that gift would be - knowing the lottery numbers, which team will win a game, who will be the next president - and it could very easily be abused by both the Net and the bad guys. I think she holds back so she doesn't get abused and only comes in on Saul's request because she trusts him and knows that he wouldn't let her gifts be used unnecessarily. THE SAVANT NET - In the books, there is also little discussed about the Savant Net. I have interpreted the Savant Net as being a private organisation run by certain elected members for the good of the Savant world. They liaison with the governments on behalf of the Savant Community, run summer camps, training courses, go on missions and recruit other Savants to achieve world peace etc, etc. TBC
