this is a response to a prompt on masskink that got away from me - AU with no reapers, Shepard as a Spectre candidate and Saren as her instructor.

Jillian Shepard travels to Palaven in an attempt to convince the Primarchs of the Turian Hierarchy that the Reaper threat is real. However, after a PR disaster concerning her unconventional personal life, complications and cross-cultural conflicts arise.

Angels are not supposed to drop out of the sky into motel rooms, broken and beaten. They're not supposed to bleed like that. It was all wrong.

Post ME 2. Garrus knows that by continuing his relationship with Shepard, they will both face difficult personal and professional challenges. What he doesn't know is that most of these challenges await them both upon the Normandy's return to the Citadel.
