![]() Author has written 5 stories for Full Metal Panic, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age. Current Project: Another Mass Effect story. Like most females it seems, I was disappointed by how little of Kaidan we saw in the new game. The chime of my alarm broke into my dreams, the images quickly dissipating into nothing but phantoms in the weak light of morning. I stretched and headed for the mess hall, my PDA shoved into a pocket. Sitting down alone at a table I ate my biotic rations. Always alone. None of the colonists on Horizon wanted anything to do with the Alliance soldier. I was barely tolerated. Gods, it hadn’t been this bad since Vyrnnus, and this time I hadn’t even killed anyone. I mechanically chewed some tasteless cereal and read the newest updates on the reader. Another letter from Joker, likely more lace than letter after the censors got through with it. After he was grounded with the destruction of the Normandy, he drifted out of my orbit. Maybe I blamed him for her death--if she hadn’t gone back for him, if he had evacuated like he was supposed to, she might still be here. No, let’s be honest-I do blame him. If he would have followed procedure, she would not have had to retrieve him and she would have survived. The logic was so simple in my mind. It was easier to get through the day thinking that. I glanced at his note, wishing the man would just leave me alone. Two years of silence should have given him the hint, but apparently not. Still, I glanced through the missive, more out of habit than for any other reason. A phrase caught my eye. “…rumor…no more piloting freighters…” was about all that was readable. At least he’s stopped trying to apologize. I don’t want words--I just want the old days back, dangerous as they were. I’m halfway surprised the military even let these messages through, as Joker defected to Cerberus a while back. With that thought, static electricity skittered down my skin to ground itself on the reader. | |||||||
