For anyone who reads my Bio, and is now asking the question, "JERICHOW, WHAT THE @#$%?!" "What" - The Last Maverick has been pulled off of the site. "WHY?!?!" - It's being rewritten, end of story. This has come after a highly neglected point I have not wanted to really look at until the latest probably hours, days, weeks, months... you get the idea, it was there I just didn't want to consider it. TLM was awesome in the first probably dozen chapters, likely less, but has since ground to a halt in both Quality, and quantity. This has been grinding away at my tolerance of this story and I've realized many things that have made me not like this book now. "What next?" - Wait, patiently if you can. TLM is not over by any magnitude of the sense; it is being rewritten from chapter 1. None of the characters I have in that book are who or what I want them to be now. To give you an idea of just how wrong this book is, I'll give you a brief insight of how I see all the characters now. Fae... She's not exactly the kind of girl I want her to be at the moment and I need to change her a bit; her attitude is a little extreme, and it's almost as if she's on her period 24/7 with all of her mood swings. I need to change her to be more consistent, but not be more predictable which is going to be a pain. Leo... holy hell... I'll get back to him in a minute, that's an essay in itself. Iris - I saw how much everyone liked 'Fighter Iris' who kicked the hell out of the Simulator Zero. That has since hammered home the fact that Iris is hardly the character I want her to be. She's so passive, she's so drawn back into the plot she might as well not even be there. This must be changed, and her interactions with Zero and the others are fairly on par with what I expected of her. Zero(MMX Zero) - He's one of the few I don't have a lot of problems with, but he's got some kinks to be worked in/out as no character's perfect, and I need to express this in all of my characters. Nobody needs a Gary Stu in their books... I'm starting to make nothing but them. Zero(MMZ Zero) - Well he's too new to have complaints with... sort of. It's hard to write about a guy who's so damn serious and talks so little, ya know? Ciel - WELL! Let's just say her interaction within TLM was going to be limited at best, but not this limited. Expect to see more of our lovely blondie in the future iteration of TLM. Fenrir - Good god... He's supposed to be a Maverick that Mavericks don't like to hang around for god sake and he's a pussy in comparison to what I've originally drawn him out to be. This character is by far the worst done of all of them and needs a serious dose of 'asshole 101' to be the maverick I want him to be. Dragoon - Outside of one or two instances, Dragoon's who I want him to be, no correction needed here. Leo... Man, I don't know how else to describe it. Leo has been a complete and utter failure as a character in any way I look at him. He's so compulsive, rambunctious, moody, and basically... he's anything but what I wanted him to be and his 'release of Fenrir' makes me look back and cringe after I die a little inside knowing I wrote that. His character has become the center of everything which is 110% F@#$ING lame, and I'm doing everything with him that I criticize in other stories. I could go on, but I'd rather spend my time undoing what I've screwed up in TLM. And now onto the story - The plot has already sailed, stalled, entered a nose dive, and crashed straight into the ground dieing in its own fire. The plot has slowed down, it's gone off on several tangents which make little sense(I call this the "Bleach Filler Effect") only to return to the plot later which it should not have left to begin with. Leo revealed his supposed 'big secret' being the Ghost of Fenrir which now I look back and go, "Where the @#$% did that come from?" - Seriously, I never intended Leo to be a Ghost of anyone, let alone Fenrir. Expect this little 'detail' to be non-existent in the new iteration of TLM. On top of this, where did Dragoon go?! Yeah, I'm asking that exact same thing as I page through this book... going to fix that too. What about that Mysterious Character who showed up after Leo and Fae fought Dragoon in the Maverick Hunter base? Who is he? What is his part? Well I planned to reveal him already, but you know that whole "Bleach Filler Effect" got in the way and I ended up not really getting to it. Again, yet another thing on the "to fix" list that can be added. The Fates are another critical set of Characters that I look at their development and Facepalm at. They were garnered as this immaculate and lethal fighting trio, yet Jehuty... yeah, my fail attempt at Leo's true form, kicked the crap out of. Whoa big surprise there... Main character can't die you know? Hell he can barely ever even get hurt! Expect Leo to get more than a few scratches in the next iteration, as well as these three to play a much larger role for a greater span of chapters. What about the military contractors and mercenary reploids? Those were going to be bad ass to write fighting scenes for but... oh! Would you look at that... dropped off the map after a few chapters, like everything else except the main character and his small group of friends... how cliche of me. I can go on longer, but as you can see this has all been plaguing me every single time I open the folder to TLM and look at the 17 chapters that I spent the last year and a half writing, only to realize the grand folly I have engineered and now must rectify, only by throwing everything to the trash bin and starting over with a clean slate. I'll post a few chapters of the new book up after I get probably 5-10 of them done, but I full well intend to write the entire book before a consistent update schedule begins again because working under a self-set time constraint is just not how I work. Until then... I shall return to the darkness of the internet to once more work on my story so one day I can return to bring you the world of The Last Maverick. |
