I first signed up for this site seven years ago.

It's funny thinking about how different I was back then (as a brief comparison between the tone of my oldest story with that of my newest will attest). I was in high school when I joined - now I have two university degrees and a job. What hasn't changed, however, is that I enjoy writing: it's why I came here in the first place. And one of the advantages of fan fiction is that there are no expectations here: to write fan fiction is to write for the sake and the mere pleasure of writing, without the need to conform to any standards but your own. There is a certain freedom in that - one absent from other forms of writing. It's why I've stayed.

I originally got into fan fiction (first got into writing, in point of fact) when I read the collected Diablo works of Steve "The Boojum" Dong on his website ten years ago. His stories showed me that fan fiction could be fun and engaging - and, importantly, genuine and sincere. It's a philosophy I have taken to heart, and I credit him for getting me started as a writer.
