Nia sat on the roof preparing to get rejected by the girl she loved.

She first discovered her feelings for Tess about a month ago or at least that's when she finally accepted them.

She'd been in denial for a while before that. Any time she felt anything she'd just tell herself that she wanted to become better friends with her neighbor. But every time Nia's eyes lingered on her a little longer than they should or she caught herself thinking of the way Tess chews the end of her pencil when they did homework together, she knew.

She found out she was gay before then but still she told no one. She was too scared to. She didn't like the feeling that she was hiding something. But keeping this secret was starting to become too much. She had to tell someone and it was only fair that that person was Tess.

So here Nia was sitting on the roof of her building at midnight waiting to probably ruin her friendship with the person she cared about most.

The door suddenly slammed open and there was Tess looking tired and slightly concerned.

"Yo, it's late why'd you ask me to meet you here?"

Nia was starting to regret all of this and wished she had just stayed inside and watched stupid movies with Booker.

"I need to tell you something."

"Ok, shoot." Tess answered as she walked over and sat next to Nia.

"So for a while now," stammered Nia "I've kind of had feelings for you."

Tess paused and then said hesitantly, "What kind of feelings?"

"Umm well," Nia started to tear up regretting all of this and the quickly said, "Like more than friends feelings. I like you. I like you a lot. I've known for a while and I never said anything and I know it's weird because we're friends and you are definitely straight and don't feel the same but I really needed to tell someone I just couldn't keep it in anymore!" She then started to cry.

"Hey, hey it's ok." Tess said as she pulled her best friend into a hug, "You're right I am straight, but thank you for telling me. You know you can talk to me about anything right?"

Nia pulled away "Yeah, yeah I know."

She knew that there was no way Tess would feel the same way but that didn't stop her from being disappointed. But it didn't seem like she was freaked out or uncomfortable being around her, which is what Nia was expecting, and that was a relief.

"Does any one else know?" Tess asked.

Nia sighed "No, nobody."

"Ok and do you want to tell your family?"

"Well yeah but I just don't know how to tell everyone. I've tried before but I panicked and backed out." Nia admitted

"Want me to go with you? Maybe if you got someone there it'd be easier you know." Tess said
