In flight from a dark and dangerous world, bound together by circumstance, but kept apart by private burdens of pain, regret and sorrow, can Maria and Georg find their way to each other?

AU. Maria arrives at the Captain's door in the middle of the night. Set the same night as the puppet show. Is an alternate version of my story, "Here Comes the Sun".

"It was possible that his mind was playing tricks on him. It wouldn't be the first time he'd conjured her up as a familiar face in a crowd of strangers." Precisely 10 months to the day since Fraulein Maria's sudden departure from 53 Aigen, Georg catches a glimpse of golden hair when on an outing in town. What he later discovers sheds light on truths he's not yet ready to confront.

Georg needs to get a file from the Nazis in order to protect Maria as well as avoid joining them; the only way he can do that is if he and Maria go to a military ball, pretending to be together. The consequences are unimaginable.

"Captain Georg von Trapp sat at his mahogany desk in his dark leather chair with a bottle of scotch in the shadowy moonlight, and brooded. Of course he did this, because this is what a handsome widower is supposed to do – and what would life be without clichés?" Companion story to "A Decent Man" about the love triangle that is Georg, Maria & Elsa. Begins just before the movie.

My contribution to the July prompt. (Thanks to lemacd!) Maria attends the party and is forced to confront the whispered rumours about herself and her employer.

Maria finds herself burning with curiosity about the intimacies that exist between man and wife. She resolves never to reveal to her fiancé just how many gaps there are in her marital education - but when a mischievous Georg offers to turn their weekly meetings about the children into weekly lessons in the art of love, she discovers it's an offer she can't quite refuse...

"Well, none of these will do," Maria muttered to herself, eye brows furrowing as she cast a curious glance over her shoulder at the Baroness standing in her doorway. A slight A/U!
